C.D.Monnappa trained Rising Rani (Mull of Kintyre-Flying Rani / Pratap Stud) won the Udhagamandalam Cup in a thrilling fashion. The 3 year old filly, youngest among the dozen runners for the seven furlongs trip was quoted liberally at 6-1. Catharsis brought the field into the final straight with Supreme being the closest challenger. Supreme took charge swiftly and was striding well as they came into the last 150 metres even as Absolute Brave was being ridden out to bridge the gap. Rising Rani in about sixth position mid-way up the straight began to move up from the wide outside and came tearing down in the closing stages to snatch the race from Supreme on the post. Absolute Brave finished third ahead of Talisker.

Sunday Cruz (Sunday Doubt-Aracruz / Dashmesh Stud justified the favouritism in the higher division of the Mayasandra Plate. The 6 year old was sent off as the favourite at 7-4 among the ten runners for the 1200 metres sprint. Taking off from the outermost draw, Sunday Cruz improved positions gradually to race in third nearing the bend even as Game Dancer and Jaanvi fought for the forward position. Improving from around the duo in front Sunday Cruz surged ahead with a furlong left and headed towards the winning post easily. Jaanvi held on to the second spot from the late finishing Gift of Love.

Lake Emerald (Black Cash-Eau De Vie / Equs Stud) from the stables of G.Srinivas Babu scored a facile win in the lower division. Moving nicely from an outward draw, Lake Emerald hit the front soon after the start. Entering the straight Lake Emerald still enjoyed a sizable lead of over two lengths with Mountain Splendour in chase but not making any impression. Lake Emerald stretched out easily to extend the margin to four lengths while Golden Wisdom beat Mountain Splendour for the second place.

Trainer G.Srinivas Babu saddled his double with the favoured Queen (Mambo Minstrel-Queen’s Special / Samra Stud) in the Phalguni River Plate. Nearing the last 600 metres Flying Tricolour and Bourbon Street were well in front with Queen in third about six lengths adrift. Sensing the urgency jockey Saddam Hussain worked his way on Queen and she bridged that gap without much fuss and streaked ahead inside the last 300 metres. Queen trounced the field by six lengths. No Doubt was the best of the beaten brigade while Ohiyesa took the third spot in front of Flying Tricolour.

Kimora (Princely Heir-Star Selection / Hargobind Stud) from the stables of Prasanna Kumar scored an encore in the higher division of the Brindavan Gardens Plate. Rare And Gorgeous took over from the leader Beautiful Life as they turned for home. The well backed favourite started to get stronger, inching closer with every stride inside the last 250 metres and was heading to wrap it up when Kimora came out of the pack with a resolute gallop and streaked through to win it by half a length. Rare And Gorgeous was third another neck away.

Sharath Kumar trained My Favourite Voice (Senure-Suhali / Amanali Stud) scored an upset win in the lower division of the Brindavan Gardens Plate. Racing in about sixth position as they entered the straight for the final run, My Favourite Voice was pulled left to be given a clear run and the 4 year old gelding responded with a good burst of speed to flash ahead. Emancipation moved from the wide outside to finish second while Always United held on to be third from Come On Gingin.

V.Narayana Gowda trained Battle Empress (Lucifer Sam-Wild Racer / Sans Craintes Stud) won the Pinakini Plate. Battle Empress got a flyer at start from draw one and shot off to lead the field. Inside the last 400 metres The Alchemist from the inside and Namrattaazz from the outside tried to put pressue but Battle Empress quickened nicely when jockey P.Kiran Rai niggled her to extend the margin to 6 ½ lengths at the finish. For Ypur Eyes Only, The Alchemist and Friends Forever filled the judge’s frame in that order.

Bipin V Salvi trained Shades of Scarlet (Inner City-Land Lady / Sunder Stud) finally won a race this season. The 6 year old mare won the first race of the day, the Chitrakoota Plate. Shades of Scarlet was placed handily in third behind Duty Free and Windsor Park till approaching the final bend. Into the home stretch Windsor Park came in first and Shades of Scarlet came from the outside with a good gallop to grab the lead and stretched clear. Stone Warrior who trailed the field till the bend after missing the jump covered ground alon the shortest path to finish second. Caterina ended up third in front of Zamindar.

Time Flies (Ontario-Ordina / Sohna Stud) brought the curtains down on the Mysore Races 2014, winning the concluding race, the Mars Orbiter Mission Plate. The 8 year old from C.V.G.K.Kishore’s stables who had found one better in its last three starts finally came good to beat the favourite Salina in the shadow of the winning post. Jersy Bride had regained the lead on entering the straight and was being ridden out to stay ahead of Salina’s challenge. Time Flies began to get stronger from the outside inside the last 200 metres and forged ahead of Salina in the last few strides. Jersy Bride finished third.
