Mr. Kondlapudi Satishand & trainer L V R Deshmukh leading Movie Moghual (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The Chief Justice Trophy Div-I

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Movie Moghual (Amadeus Wolf-Mina Girl) made amends for his narrow defeat in his earlier start in the higher division of the Chief Justice Trophy, a six furlongs sprint for horses in the highest category. Jockey P.S.Chouhan who was severely reprimanded by the Stewards last time for failing to exercise sufficient control made sure he stayed out of trouble while riding out the favourite safely home. The 3 year old bay colt, the youngest among the eight runners for the 1200 metres sprint took a good start and settled well when Black Bolt and Power Drive decided to head to the front. Into the last 400 metres the duo in front kept fighting it out and Movie Moghual ranged from around them to take charge without much fuss and stayed well. Black Bolt staved off Power Drive for the runner-up berth.

Manjri Stud bred Magical Spell (Phoenix Tower-Goodness Gracious) was impressive while completing a hat-trick in the lower division. The speedy Elenor led the field with Mukhtar and Tejaswini in close attendance. Magical Spell raced a close fourth along the inner rails. Passing the 600 metres Magical Spell moved fluently through the shortest way and by the time they entered the home stretch, the filly was on the outside of Elenor with a challenge. With a furlong left from the finish Magical Spell forged ahead easily under apprentice Akshay Kumar and stretched out to win by a big margin. Azaiba improved to finish second in front of Elenor. Silver Crown and Rio Rojo were non-starters in the race.

Jockey P.S.Chouhan continued to rule at Malakpet, piloting three of his four mounts to victory. The other two winners were Veloz in the opener and a maiden win by That’s My Darling.

Veloz (C P West-Fathom Five) from the stables of M.Srinivas Reddy annexed the C.Sathyanarayana Memorial Cup beating the favourite Silver Phantom. The two had met in the Deccan Derby six weeks ago where Veloz prevailed over Silver Phantom by a slender margin to make it to the judge’s frame. Despite the Derby outcome the popular support went with Silver Phantom, being sent off as the favourite at 10-7 ‘on’. Veloz was second in demand at 5-2 among the five runners in the mile race.

Silver Phantom with A.Imran Khan astride rushed to the front as the field was despatched and set a steady pace. Jockey P.S.Chouhan on Veloz did not allow the ‘Phantom’ to steal the race and raced a close second all the way. Veloz began to close up from the outside approaching the last 200 metres and with Chouhan urging strongly headed past Silver Phantom on whom Imran Khan was unable to squeeze out anything extra. Greek Star ended up third faraway behind.

That’s My Darling (Mr.Mellon-Highly Fashionable), a stylish looking youngster from trainer S.S.Faisal Hassan’s yard was given an easy ride by P.S.Chouhan to win the Vegavathi Plate. Mighty Swing showed good speed at start to hit the front at start. Karromshade raced second with That’s My Darling settled nicely in third close to the fence and as they started to round the final bend improved to challenge the leader Mighty Swing from the outside. Mighty Swing tried to hold on to the lead but was no match when P.S.Chouhan brought That’s My Darling with a fluent run. Escalante ran on well enough to beat Mighty Swing for the second place.

Jockey Deep Shanker who replaced an indisposed Kuldeep Singh on L.D’Silva trained Exclusive (Cool Creek-Astrid) used the chance ride to score an upset in the Bagmati Cup. Exclusive showed plenty of speed to get to the lead from the start. Inside the last furlong Rob Roy began to gallop strongly but Deep Shanker kept riding out Exclusive to pass the winning post first 1 ¼ lengths ahead. The race favourite Rajkumar ended up third another 1 ¾ lengths away while Sprint Saloni filled the frame.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju trained Sprint Legend (Street Boss-Tafcar) scored an effortless win in the lower division of the Bakranangal Plate. Sent off as the favourite at 18-10, Sprint Legend set off to lead the pack from the start and kicked on effortlessly under Nilesh Rawal on the home straight without any serious challenge coming from behind. Clinching Evidence, Noble Heights and Rocky Hill filled the frame in that order.

Vijays Splendour (Ikhtyar-Confluence) from trainer Laxman Singh’s was ridden to victory by apprentice S.S.Tanwar in the Grace Hanover Plate. The 4 year old bay colt who had won a 2400 metres trip earlier proved to be a good type of stayer while winning the ten furlongs race. After a few shuffles to wrest the lead, Killer Instinct and Vijays Splendour raced ahead together to the front as they neared the last 800 metres. Vijays Splendour forged ahead of Killer Instinct who began to tire out as they passed the 400 metres board and went clear. Shades of Victory came up with a challenge inside the last furlong but could only diminish the lead to a length and a half. The favourite Vijay Vaishnavee finished a tame third.

Anupam Sharma trained Symbol Of Glory (Hymn-Jalapeno) paid the highest dividend of the day. The filly was ridden to victory in the lower division of the Medak Plate by apprentice K.Mukesh Kumar. Symbol of Glory took a good jump but was forced to drop back to third by Rosemonde and Romantic Fire who rushed to the lead. Approaching the last 300 metres Symbol of Glory was alighted to the task from the outside and the filly galloped strongly to head past the fighting duo in front. Gaarswood rallied late from behind to finish second. Rosemond and Romantic Fire finished third and fourth respectively.

C Eleven (Mathematician-Crown Chapter) from Donald Netto’s stables was backed to the exclusion of the others in the higher division. The 3 year old filly justified the cramped odds with an impressive turn of foot in the last furlong. Roma Royal on a start to finish was followed by Flames of Forest on the straight. C Eleven travelling around the field all the way from the start picked up speed inside the last furlong and flashed ahead to spare two lengths over Flames of Forest at the wire. Coral Springs and Catherine finished third and fourth respectively.
