Mr Vijay Kumar Gupta, Mr Ahmed Alam Khan & trainer L V R Deshmukh leading Supreme Fairy (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The Deccan Bookmakers Golconda 1000 Guineas (Gr.2)

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Supreme Fairy (Multidimensional-Supreme Princess / Usha Stud) got her due in the Deccan Bookmakers Golconda 1000 Guineas Gr.2, the first classic of the winter season at Hyderabad. The daughter of Multidimensional, runner-up in the Deccan Derby was ridden superbly by P.S.Chouhan en-route to her first classic success. The filly was sent off as the favourite among the ten runners but at odds that was more liberal than expected due to the presence of Westphalia who had arrived from Western India with a hat-trick under her belt.

Panachecorn set out on a fast pace and called the shots till entering the home stretch with Feliciana in chase and the rest behind. As they headed past the 400 metres board Alameda was quick to make her move and grab the lead. She kept going well even as they came in for the final furlong. Jockey P.S.Chouhan timed his move on Supreme Fairy to a nicety and started his challenge past the distance post. Laurita was also in the race with a bid from the outside. With about 100 metres left from home the race looked to be between Alameda and Supreme Fairy and the latter stormed home to be three parts of a length better at the finish. Laurita and Westphalia filled the judge’s frame in a close finish.

Debutante Brilliant Twist (Ace-Refresh) from trainer Laxman Singh’s yard won the Blue Bird Plate with ease. Charming Beauty and Roi’s Cruise disputed the lead till entering the straight with Brilliant Twist hugging the rails close behind. On top of the straight Charming Beauty started to lug out and Brilliant Twist was guided to through the wide opening by A.M.Tograllu. The youngster kept a straight course and stretched out easily to extend the lead. Charming Beauty corrected herself to head back towards the inner path to finish second. Bharat Princess came in late to take the third spot from Roi’s Cruise. Princess Hina and Argo were non-starters in the race.

Trainer S.S.Faisal Hassan and jockey Akshay Kumar combined to pull off a double through Musk Melon and Power Planet both well backed favourites. Power Planet (Epicentre-Classic Arawd) won the higher division of the Mica Empress Cup. Jack Sparrow set off on a start to finish bid and was galloping freely even as they moved into the last furlong. The favourite Power Planet raced second last till into the straight and gave some anxious moments to its supporters. Akshay Kumar pulled his mount to the wide outside and began to work his way. The 5 year old came up with a long stretched run to flash past all the front runners and score by a comfortable margin in the end. Golden Arrow rallied late to snatch the second place from Jack Sparrow.

Musk Melon (Mr.Mellon-Stupendous) who had won a seven furlongs race a fortnight ago completed an encore over a similar trip in the division I of the Corden Rouge Plate. The ‘on money’ favourite improved gradually in the initial stages to chase the leader Spirited. On the final straight with about 300 metres left, Musk Melon forged ahead effortlessly and kept going well even as Chocolate Soldier made a bid from the extreme outside. Sterling Finish and Pinky finished third and fourth respectively. Chitrangada was withdrawn before the race.

Trainer L.D’Silva’s ward Fenway Court (Cool Creek-Pettalumma) who had not won a race from eleven starts was the only upset of the day in the lower division. The filly raced a handy second behind Allianz Arena till the last 200 metres and when asked for an effort, scuttled well to head past and score a maiden win. The favourite Light Blue Sky was a bit late in its effort and had to settle for the second place in front of Allianz Arena.

D.Netto trained Rahul’s Diamond (Black Cash-Czarina) justified the favouritism in the lower division of the Mica Empress Cup. The even money favourite was kept in the last position till the last 600 metres while Policy Maker enjoyed a clear lead in front. As they rounded the final bend jockey A.Imran Khan on Rahul’s Diamond made a quick forward move to improve through horses in the rear to get to a clearing on the wide outside. Rahul’s Diamond responded well to a couple of cracks from the rider and flashed ahead to win it from Policy Maker. Cannon Ten finished third.

S.A.Shehzad Abbas schooled Right Dimension (Multidimensional-Flowersoftheforest / Usha Stud) who was almost money back favourite in the Original Vel V.Balasubramani Memorial Cup was made to sweat it out to justify the favouritism. Red Rambble was in the lead early and Right Dimension had improved to be second as they approached the last 800 metres. The two came into the final straight in that way and when jockey Trevor Patel made his move on Right Dimension with a furlong left Red Rambble was relentless along the rails. Trevor had to ride out hard to get the better by three parts of a length in the closing stages.

M.Srinivas Reddy trained Dare To Dream (Oath-Starnessey) who had won all its three starts at Hyderabad before failing to make a mark at Bangalore in the Juvenile Million scored a runaway victory in the Windscale Plate, the concluding race of the day. Surging ahead to take charge from Stolen Date on top of the straight Dare to Dream stretched out effortlessly to give jockey Dashrath Singh an arm chair ride. Lips Locking, Pakat Pakat and Dear Friend filled the frame in that order in a close finish.
