Mr Vijay Kumar Gupta & trainer L V R Deshmukh leading Tintinnabulation (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The Indian Navy Rolling Challenge Trophy

Multi Classic winner Tintinnabulation (Intikhab-Tourmalet / Hazara Stud) trained by L.V.R.Deshmukh was confidently piloted by P.S.Chouhan en-route to its triumph in the Indian Navy Rolling Challenge Trophy, a mile race for horses in the highest category on Sunday at Hyderabad. The 5 year old gelding sent off as money back favourite spared just a slender quarter of a length to stable companion Plenipotent at the finish but the victory was much easier than the verdict suggests.

Plenipotent set off on a good gallop to lead followed by Azaiba. Tintinnabulation settled well in third while Ocean Side and Sweet Candy braced the rear after lethargic start. Into the straight for the final run Plenipotent came in with a good lead and Tintinnabulation started to get closer. The rest were not in contention. Jockey P.S.Chouhan was just using his hands and heels to make his challenge inside the last furlong and did not go wild even as Plenipotent kept kicking on. Tintinnabulation was travelling confidently well with P.S.Chouhan letting go just enough to emerge in front close to the winning post.

Deshmukh and P.S.Chouhan had their double through Vijay Viraaj (Jeremy-Linette) in the Dr.S.R.Captain Memorial Cup. Baazigar set off on a start to finish mission with Secret Angel and Mukhtar being the closest till into the straight. Vijay Viraaj racing in about seventh position as they showed up on the straight was alighted to the task from the wide outside and Chouhan had to ride out to get the youngster to raise a gallop. Vijay Viraaj started to cover places and with 100 metres left from the finish sped past Baazigar. The favourite Ray of Light also began to move up alongside Vijay Viraaj but could only land up to be third. Shamrock Lady was a non-starter in the race.

M.V.Narayana Rao trained O Ms Akilah (Sedgefield-Hidden Danger) sent off at short price in the opener, the Onnu Onnu Onnu Plate, a 1100 metres dash for maiden 2 year olds pulled it off despite running a bit green in the last two furlongs. The filly hit the front at start but was found to be hanging in and fell back to run fifth along the rails. Golden Angel, Love For The Game and Island Bird fought for the lead till entering the straight. As they headed past the 400 metres board jockey Akshay Kumar pulled out O Ms Akhila to the outside to make a bid. The filly started to drift out and run green even as Love For The Game and Island Bird kept fighting out in front. Despite the erratic behavior O Ms Akhila covered grond and flashed past to overhaul the leaders convincingly. Island Bird just managed to nudge out Love For The Game for the second spot.

Jockey Beuzelin Louis did well to guide his first mount this season to victory in the King Rama Plate. Louis had D.Netto’s Flower Roll Up held back in fifth along the fence as Natalia led the pack followed by Aston Doulton, Always Together and Torremolinos. Entering the straight the gap between Natalia and the fence opened up and Louis rode his filly through to slip to the lead and score an encore. Torremolinos also began to challenge from the outside but found the winner going well and settled for the second place. Aston Doulton and Always Together finished third and fourth respectively. Fresco and Humraaj were non-runners in the race.

Anupam Sharma trained Sarvagnya (Juniper-Ahliyat) justified the favouritism in fine fashion in the higher division of the Royal Tern Plate. Racing a handy third along the inner rails behind stablemates Overlook and Cold Smile early, Sarvagnya surged ahead to take charge inside the last 300 metres and won unchallenged. Pirouz finished second ahead of Gun Stream and The Da Vinci Code.

Squanderers Square (Mull of Kintyre-Aureus) from the stables of K.S.V.Prasad Raju who was winless from 21 starts was confidently sent off as the favourite at 10-7 ‘on’ for the lower division. The 4 year old gelding did well to carry the top weight of 62 kilograms to two lengths victory over Classic Emerald. Trustfull finished third another four lengths adrift. Anangalekha was withdrawn before the race.

On a day dominated by well supported favourites, K.Satheesh trained Modern Sniper (Noverre-Wonder Smile) was one among them to pull it off successfully in the Sangam Plate. The 3 year old ridden by apprentice N.S.Rathore utilized the 5 kilograms allowance to beat Roma Royal by a length and three quarters. City of Dreams and Romantic Fire finished third and fourth respectively.
