ADAM MAINTAINS HIS UNBEATEN STREAK

By Mahendra Mallya | 11 Dec 2014 | MUMBAI

Trainer P Shroff leading Adam (Trevor Patel Up), winner of The Maharaja Sir Pratapsingh Gaekwad Trophy

Adam (Multidimensional – Adesina, Usha Stud) galloped fluently to notch up his fourth straight win and once again he proved too good for his opponents, as he did on each of his victories so far. Adam was quick to settle up with the leaders and carry on from there once they came to the business end. And for Adam, it was business as usual once they turned for home.

Running Sun led them into the straight with Adam closing in all the time. Adam, with the in-form Trevor in the saddle, opened up to surge ahead easily. Running Sun faded out soon and there was no worthy challenge coming from any quarter. Adam stormed ahead to pile on a solid victory and looks good to add to his tally.

Helping Hand (Multidimensional – Fingers Crossed, Usha Stud) was the other on-money favourite to have won comprehensively. Sandesh had the firm favourite in the mid-bunch but not too far away from the leaders.

Allegiance dropped out after leading them in and soon Naval Glory took charge. By then Sandesh astutely found his way between horses and within split seconds found his way to the front. Once in the lead, Helping Hand dominated the rest of the way leaving Naval Glory and the rest far behind. Helping Hand gathered momentum and sailed away for a very comfortable victory giving Sandesh a nice, easy and smooth ride to victory. Naval Glory clearly found one better, but promised to make it count soon and notch up a win before long. Ricochet improved to finish third.

Shivalik Showers (Dancing Forever – Sun Shower, Hazara Stud) had a tiny scare perhaps when Storming Home got too close for comfort. Although Shivalik Showers always looked to be in control, Storming Home gave an impression that he might make it a close finish as he gained on Shivalik Showers. However, Yash Naredu had it all covered and guided Shivalik Showers to a fine win with a narrow margin.

Owner Kishore Dingra reaped a rich back-to-back double through Pepito (Kingda Ka – Accentuate, Nanoli Stud) and Quick Angel (Black Cash – Deeleecious, Yervada Stud) in the fifth and sixth races.

Don Corleone brought the field into the straight and although he had a handy lead, he could not sustain beyond the distance post. Cezanne could not quicken nor could Aeacus who were both in prominent position just behind the leader. Pepito arrived with a game gallop to sail past the Don to stretch away nicely and force a win. Favourite Himalayan Queen suffered a hampered start as she good blocked at the jump and Yash Narredu just couldn’t find any way out to settle into a good position. Himalayan Queen had to race at the tail end of the field, and over a sprint that was not the best of positions.

Himalayan Queen though, gave a glimmer of hope arriving from the wide outside with a cracking run, however, by then, jockey Trevor and Pepito had stolen a march and was accelerating too well to be in any danger. Pepito held on comfortably and Himalayan Queen was left to fight another day.

Quick Angel was ably ridden by Darren Williams and they managed to down the spirited run of Statuesque with a measure of comfort. The betting trends so a volatile swing between Statuesque getting solid support at starting time, with Desert Rage and Quick Angel too enjoying their share of supporters. They were heading for a keen finish alright and everybody had something to shout for.

Joleene guided them in and soon Statuesque dealt the first blow. She darted to the front going for the early advantage with Desert  Rage on the move right beside. Quick Angle too got into top gear and a fight seemed on the card. Statuesque was going all out past the distance post when Quick Angel surged forward with a game gallop. She finished on with a sparkle to sail ahead with a fiery zip to land the spoils a lot easier than expected. Statuesque was all spent and just about managed to end runner-up, a whisker ahead of Desert Rage.

Trevor was again in his elements soon after hitting the bulls-eye with Hudson Hawk (Black Cash – Wikhed Idea, Equus Stud) in the last race of the day. Shivalik Breeze was backed very heavily at race time and the odds on Hudson Hawk saw a sharp rise to 9/2 while Shivalik Breeze was backed down to almost evens from a two to one opening. These trends proved way off as only Zadora offered a semblance of fight to Hudson Hawk as he mowed down his opponents with an aggressive run. Shivalik Breeze was beaten out of sight.

Zadora came in home first and was travelling well approaching the distance post. Trevor had the Sunderji trained Hudson Hawk posing a challenge from the outside. Shivalik Breeze was never going to make it. In the final furlong, Zadora and Hudson Hawk left the others far behind and tussled for a stride or two before Trevor steered Hudson Hawk ahead to score a facile victory.

Light of Arabia (Arabian Gulf – Speed of Light, Manjri Stud) pulled off her maiden win in style, drawing away in the final furlong from favourite Laurus Pride. Bhawani Singh was quick to guide the second-in-demand to the front and led merrily all the way. Once into the straight, Light of Arabia kicked on and although Laurus Pride was just over a length away, she looked comfortable keeping the momentum going. Once inside the final furlong, Light of Arabia accelerated further to skip away and increase the margin to win by an impressive five-lengths.

For the professionals, trainer Narendra Lagad was the star of the day leading in three winners. Jockey P Trevor too continued his amazing run with a treble.
