Mr Arjun Sajnani & trainer Neil Darashah leading Pippin (Arshad Alam Up), winner of The Royal Calcutta Turf Club Cup
It is good to see the young brigade, Arjun Manglorkar, Suleiman Attaollahi and Neil Darashah on top of the leader board. The youngsters set to change the old order and call the shots at this centre are consistently challenging the best and the results they have consistently obtained over the last 12 months only suggests that they have narrowed the gap and are favourably placed to take command in the year ahead.
On Friday, Neil Darashah registered a fine treble including Pippin, the winner of the Royal Calcutta Turf Club Cup, the plum event run over a sprint. The facile last start winner who had posted a shock win over a seven furlongs trip was surprisingly ignored in the betting ring despite the fact that the in-form son of Tariq was now negotiating a trip which he relishes most. Pentagram on the strength of his fluent victory in his last essay garnered the maximum support and West Side Story too had a good share of her followers and this resulted in Pippin being offered at six to one.
The in-form Neil ward confidently piloted by the talented Arshad Alam after being favourably placed at the top of the straight romped home to the delight of his owner Arjun Sajnani. Flames Of Passion finished a good second ahead of Rare And Ellusive while the two top fancies failed to make the frame.
Neil earlier led in Rich Revival who had surprised most in the opening event of the season and Nesto who had failed to justify favouritism in the hands of Neil Farley in his last essay. That Farley retained by the Rai brothers, Muthappa Rai and Chandrashekar Rai for the winter is back in Ireland failing to absorb the pressure and soak in the Indian atmosphere, provided the more experienced and successful Colm O’ Donoghue who is engaged by Shapoor Mistry at Mumbai, the opportunity to pilot Nesto and the Irish ace in his maiden appearance at this centre this season guided home the public choice without raising a sweat.
Rich Revival after his shock win had improved most and it was no surprise that his connections chose to fancy him strongly in the lower division of the Vidushwatha Plate.
Imran Khan astride the winner had it easy and on the strength of this performance, Rich Revival is set to complete a hat-trick of wins when saddled next.
The upper division of the event was claimed by the public rage Why Should I who after winning unfancied at (30/1) recorded his second straight success at (30/100). The moody Interactive caught the eye while finishing a game second ahead of Delilah who it must be mentioned has moved into the striking zone and it will not be long before this Amit Caddy ward enters the winners’ circle.
Trainer Prithviraj who is enjoying a good run, most winners from his yard justifying the support of their trainer, brought off a successful gamble on Hello Boss piloted by Gnaneshwar. The winner who had impressed most while finishing an easy third in his first essay before gaining the runner-up spot in his next event, again without really being extended by T S Jodha was backed down from sixes to fours in the betting ring before Gnaneshwar made every post a winning one in the upper division of the Kudremukh Plate to the delight of the Prithviraj camp. Mandarin did well to take the second spot ahead of Sagrada while Del Marco who took a lot of money down the drain on the opening day, repeated the dose much to the disappointment of the favourite punters.
Back from Pune and consistently blazing the track in the morning, Sheer Elation from Suleiman Attaollahi’s yard was rightly backed to the exclusion of her 10 rivals and the talented daughter of Burden Of Proof cantered home without really extending herself in the lower division of the Kudremukh Plate . Everest caught the eye while finishing second and so did Native Force who is one for the note book.
The opening event was an open affair and Mister Grey from Mohd. Khan’s yard after his two suggestive earlier efforts earned his cornbill.
The well fancied Royal Rein won the Smt.Satyavathi V Char Memorial Cup in the hands of Suraj Narredu and is set to provide an encore when next saddled.
