BEAU IDEAL SPRINTS AWAY WITH THE SPEAKER’S CUP

Beau Ideal (Kuldeep Singh Up), winner of The Speaker'S Cup Div-I

L.D’Silva trained Beau Ideal (Don Michelleto-Shades of Beauty) showed plenty of speed while annexing the division I of the Speaker’s Cup that featured the day’s card of eight races at Hyderabad on Sunday. The 4 year old filly was the smartest out of the gates and headed to lead the field from the outermost draw. Proof improved to chase the leader within the first 400 metres but came under pressure when asked for an effort inside the final furlong. Elenor came up with a late bid and started to close up on Beau Ideal but the winner kicked on gamely to stay a length in front at the finish. Proof held on to the third position from Ashwa Shakti.

Un Un Un (Duja-Serious Trouble) from the stables of R.H.Sequeira scored its fifth straight win in the lower division. The 3 year old who is in rousing form was sent off as the hot favourite among the eight runners for the sprint. Getting straight down to business from draw one with K.Mukesh Kumar on the saddle, Un Un Un outclassed the field with a runaway victory in a smart timing. Robust beat the rest to take the third spot while Power Drive and Jack Sparrow filled the judge’s frame.

Mukesh Kumar had earlier in the day piloted Anupam Sharma trained Escalante (Chevaliar-Ekofisk) to a maiden win in the Flirting Vision Plate, the first race of the day. Escalante who had found one better in its last three starts set off on a start to finish mission. Columbus was in close attendance till mid-way up the straight but was no match when Escalante started to stretch out.

Anupam Sharma was the only trainer to saddle a double on the day. Chocolate Soldier (Rebuttal-Cover Up) whose only win from 22 starts was nearly two years ago sported a pair of wings while earning a double for the trainer in the Pocharam Cup. Chocolate Soldier who had taken a good start fell back to the last position among the six runners in the seven furlongs race. On entering the home stretch Crown Royal had assumed command and Regal Groom was making a bid from the outside. Chocolate Soldier in the meanwhile made a run from the extreme outside and the 4 year old with big strides swept them all under P.Ajeet Kumar. Regal Groom finished second ahead of Crown Royal.

Laxman Singh trained Ivanova (Equitable-Glare) who is having a good run, came devouring down the final furlong to beat Super Falcon in the closing stages and score an encore in the higher division of the Malakpet Cup. Approaching the distance marker Super Falcon was just in front with Flower Roll Up and Golden Essence making strong bid. Ivanova, racing second last till entering the home stretch started to cover ground from the outside and with a resolute gallop flashed past the three to pull it off. Super Falcon, Flower Roll Up and Golden Essence finished in that order behind the winner.

Dark bay colt Musk Melon (Mr Mellon-Stupendous) from S.S.Faisal Hassan’s stables justified the short price en-route to a hat-trick in the lower division. Musk Melon had settled well in third behind Altruist and Rocking Racer. With about 300 metres left from the finish jockey Akshay Kumar asked Musk Melon to quicken and he did that in fine fashion to streak into the lead. Sunday Beauty rallied on to finish second ahead of Kohinoor Punch while Olive took the fourth spot.

Zoheb Shaikh trained Blue Eyed Babe (Kheleyf-Java Lady) earned her second straight win by a big margin in the Dynamic Dancer Plate. The filly was held along the fence to run third while Amazing Weapon called the shots followed by Ondha Ondha Ondha. On the straight Blue Eyed Babe was pulled out to make her run and the filly responded to apprentice N.S.Rathore’s urgings and extended effortlessly to go to the lead in the last 250 metres and draw away by five lengths. Ondha Ondha Ondha got the better of Amazing Weapon for the second place.

J.Silvester trained 6 year old mare, A Horizontal Urge (Greensmith-Anntari) pulled off the biggest upset of the day in the Grand Parade Plate, the concluding race of the afternoon. After leading for a while, A Horizontal Urge settled in second when Bold Attack decided to take over the running. Inside the last 400 metres A Horizontal Urge regained the lead and stretched out easily to romp home by five and a half lengths. True Scholar, Dazzling Princess and Globetrotter filled the judge’s frame in that order.
