C.V.G.K.Kishore trained Castle King (Hymn-Castle Beauty / Jai Govind Stud) scored an authoritative win in the C.Dasharatharama Shetty Memorial Trophy, a mile race for horses rated 80 and above that featured Tuesday’s races at Mysore. The 6 year old gelding that had moved to Kishore’s yard recently was fancied well with money coming on, towards race time to close as the second in demand among the five contenders. This was only the second time Castle King was being tried over 1600 metres and he did prove himself as a good miler.

Mr.Carpe set the pace from the start with Castle King positioned nicely in second. Sofast, Bold Police and Commanding Heights followed the duo in almost a single file. Jockey Arshad Alam took his mount Castle King past the leader on entering the straight and the boy did not have much work to do as the expected challenge from the likes of Bold Police and Sofast was never there. Sofast took the runner-up berth ahead of Commanding Heights. Bold Police disappointed its supporters finishing a tame fourth.

Trainer Micheal Eshwer and jockey Keanen Steyn pulled off yet another ‘Manjri’ double. The first win came through Sancy (Phoenix Tower-Anmol / Manjri Stud) who scored her maiden win in the lower division of the Thiruvananthapuram Plate. Royal Regina set off on a start to finish bid over the five and a half furlongs dash and looked good with a lead of almost three lengths with 150 metres left from home. Jockey Keanen Steyn then start to work his way on the favourite Sancy and the filly came up with a good turn of foot to bridge that gap and draw away in the closing stages. Windsor Park finished third in front of Sivanta.

Constantine (Holy Roman Emperor-Coconut Swueak) completed a hat-trick from as many starts after shifting from Western India. The 4 year old moved nicely at start to get to the lead along the fence and won uncontested, making every post a winning one. Catharsis chased the winner all through the straight to be the runner-up. Starstruck and Azure Fire finished third and fourth respectively.

The 8 year old Thrillseeker (Bees Prospector-Tulsa Time / Singh Stud) made light of the penalty incurred for its win a week ago and reproduced that run to score an encore in the higher division of the Thiruvananthapuram Plate. The grey Charm And Dream tried start to finish tactics. On top of the straight the favourite Teri Adah was trying to make a bid from the outside but was struggling to get there. In the meanwhile Thrillseeker took the shortest way and ridden out by A.Ashok Kumar forged ahead and went clear by two lengths from Char And Dream. Teri Adah was third another half a length adrift.

Golden Steps (Don Micheletto-Miraflores / Nakul Stud) who was still a maiden from twenty starts shed that status in the Antequera Plate. The 5 year old mare trained by S.Santosh Rao took a good jump and settled nicely to track the leader Iridium. Approaching the last 300 metres Golden Steps moved from the outside to forge ahead of the leader and drew clear. Friends Forever and Heavenly Divas finished third and fourth respectively while Golden Cruise and Vrajanandan dead-heated for the fourth place.

Bipin V Salvi trained Star Formation (China Visit-Prevalence / Usha Stud) started off her career in fine fashion in the Himalayas Plate, the first race of the day. The filly got to lead the pack within the first furlong and once into the straight stretched out effortlessly to win by almost a distance. Siddhani ended up second while Subhagya held on to the third spot from El Dorado.

Jockey A.Imran Khan rode Ranjeet Shinde trained Flirting King to victory in the Sirsi Plate. Jumping out well from ten draw, Flirting King closed up from the outside and settled nicely in third behind Dance With Me and Robinhood Pandey. Turning for home was on the haunches of Robinhood Pandey and once on the straight surged forward and built up a good lead. Pamushana came through the shortest way and tried to challenge Flirting King but had to settle for the runner-up berth. The favourite For Your Eyes Only was wide at the turn, improved to close the gap and ended up third.

Trainer Ranjeet Shinde saddled a double through Speartooth (Chatham Straight-Winning Talk / Ruia Stud) in the B.Khanna Memorial Plate, the concluding race of the day. Speartooth, sent off as the favourite at 7-4 set out on a start to finish bid under Shobhan Babu and kicked on easily inside the last furlong even as La Piperi was ridden out in second. Gunpowder rallied late from the extreme outside to take the third spot.
