Trainer Vikram Appachu leading Bold Nature (M Rajesh Kumar Up), winner of The Rajakumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Trophy Div-I

Vikram Appachu trained Bold Nature (Epicentre-Streaking Senorita / A.B.Stud) with a sparkling late gallop won the Rajakumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Trophy-division I, the main event of Wednesday’s card at Mysore. Bold Nature had it in her to make it over the six furlongs trip in the higher class but many of those who wanted to wager their money on the 6 year old, were probably put off seeing the odds moving upwards towards race time. Jockey M.Rajesh Kumar who rode Bold Nature had a marvellous day with a treble with Sivanta and Thrillseeker being the other two.

Flying Tricolour once again showed plenty of initial speed to hit the front, followed by Dreamliner. Bold Nature raced in about sixth or seventh with the eventual runner-up Miss International tailed off last. Approaching the last furlong Clever Trick had headed past Flying Tricolour and was looking to pull it off. Bold Nature weaved through the half a dozen horses in front and with a sizzling turn of foot flashed past in a jiffy. Miss International came tearing down the stretch but failed to get Bold Nature by a short-head. Clever Trick and Flying Tricolour filled the judge’s frame in that order.

Zareer Darashah trained Ohiyeasa (Ontario-I Fear Nothing / Sohna Stud) which had not seen the winning post for over three years wrapped up the lower division. Starsonboard in the lead was being challenged by Its My Party on the straight and Zoe was making a bid between them. The 9 year old Ohiyesa racing along the fence in fourth forced its way through the horses in front inside the last 200 metres and took the lead. Gunpowder covered plenty of ground from the extreme outside but failed to collar Ohiyesa and ended up to be second ahead of Lagoona. The long-time leader Starsonboard finished fourth

C.D.Monnappa trained Sufficient Proof (Burden of Proof-Cool Jazz / Kunigal Stud) pulled it off in the Ooty Plate, a five and a half furlongs dash for maiden 3 year old horses. Sufficient Proof had enough credentials to make it to the winner’s circle, having improved placing in its last two starts but the filly was available at a nourishing 3-1while first timer Passing Fancy enjoyed the favouritism. Into the home stretch Diamond Attraction was in the lead followed closely by Kaguya Himei and Passing Fancy. Sufficient Proof was in fourth another three lengths adrift. Inside the last 200 metres Passing Fancy surged past the two in front and was looking good when Sufficient Proof picked up momentum to cover the leeway and get the better by three parts of a length.

Trainer C.V.G.K.Kishore with his small string of horses led in Royal Shaan (Royal Gladiator-Shanavi / Pratap Stud) in the Babudangiri Plate. Available at 10-1, Royal Shaan set off in the lead right from the start with the favourite Speartooth on its haunches all the way. Royal Shaan was relentless and kept kicking on inside the last furlong even as Speartooth tried its best and emerged victorious by half a length. Artic Rose rallied on to finish third.

Thrillseeker (Bee’s Prospector-Tulsa Time / Singh Stud) who is in rousing form this winter completed a hat-trick and also provided trainer P.C.Tejaswi his third winner for the day in the Cochin Plate. Thrillseeker first won a seven furlongs race, then an 1100 metres dash and now proved to be a miler as well with an almost start to finish effort. Mumbai import Hallelujah who was also looking to make it three in a row went past Thrillseeker passing the 300 metres board but the 8 year old Thrillseeker regained the lead quickly with renewed effort and won well. Hay Day came up late from the rear to finish third ahead of Strive And Serve.

P.C.Tejaswi’s first win came through Smokehead (Glory of Dancer-Sober Mind / Broadacres Stud) in the higher division of the Spark of Life Plate. The 6 year old had just one win from thirty six starts going into the race. Small Cruise led the field early followed closely by First Light. New Sunrise moved quickly on entering the straight to join the duo and looked to be travelling well when Smokehead gathered speed from behind and sped past inside the last 100 metres. Small Cruise and First Light finished third and fourth respectively.

The second was Sivanta (Mr.Mellon-Marquisa / Ruia Stud) in the higher division of the Mangalore Plate. Sivanta travelled with the rear bunch initially and then gradually improved to be in about sixth position rounding the bend. On entering the home stretch Speedy Amigo was the first to take the initiative and surge to the lead. Sivanta responded well to M.Rajesh Kumar’s strong arm movements in a ‘no whips’ race to come up strongly from the outside to head past Speedy Amigo. Flirting King rallied on to take the third spot.

Triple Victory (Burden of Proof-Shenandoah / Kunigal Stud) won the lower division of the Mangalore Plate in an impressive fashion. Triple Victory tracked the leader Winning Desire as they turned for home and on top of the straight tried to slip in but the gap narrowed down and had to be pulled out. In the meanwhile Black Dragon covered ground strongly from the outside and grabbed the lead. Triple Victory made a second attempt after being pulled out and the 6 year old mare responded with a brilliant turn of foot to flash into the lead and wrap it up. Black Dragon held on to the second place from Winning Desire while Teri Adah finished a close fourth.

G.Srinivas Babu trained Lake Of Magic (Royal Kingdom-House On The Hill / Equus Stud) went on a start to finish bid in the lower division of the Spark of Life Plate and successfully pulled it off. The 7 year old came into the straight with a lead of about two lengths close to the rails and then began to drift out towards the centre of the track. Despite the drift Lake of Magic continued to kick on gamely and won by a good margin. Vrajanandan improved to get the better of Friend’s Forever. The favourite Tandav was a disappointing fifth behind Come On Gingin.
