Florican (Appu up), winner of the Bull Temple Cup, being led in by trainer Mr.S.Narredu & owner Ms.K.Gidwani

Jockey K P G Appu is one of those reliable jockeys who can be followed to profit. The light-weight was in the limelight on Friday, booting home a hat-trick of wins including the win in the day’s feature event, the Bull Temple Cup, for horses rated 40 and above where he managed to get favourite Florican to stretch out in the nick of time to nose out the front-running Fly The Fury.Florican was the public rage but there was muted optimism about the prospect of Fly The Fury. The small made Fly The Fury who had reeled off a number of wins before losing her zest around this time last year, did not have the form to recommend her strongly and Florican had everything going for him. However, Fly The Fury who was given a fine ride by Srinath, had all but sewn up the race as Florican had run into one problem or the other by his tendency to drop back in the early part of the race and having to cover ground on his adversaries. However, this time out, Florican quickened before it was too late to land the spoils in an exciting finish. Shalivahana had run suggestive races, indicating that his win was on the cards. Jockey Appu rode a copy book race, guiding the son of Sizzling Melody to a comfortable win over a late-finishing Simply Amazing who could have troubled the winner with a strong ride than the one given by Krishnan who has been handicapped by being deprived the use of the whip. Appu’s driving finish also enabled Pine Forest get the better of Tribal Lady by a whisker. The victory was the first recorded by the six year old son of Young Senor. Guest Connections, who had been prevented from giving off her best last time out, swamped the opposition in the Talakaveri Plate (Div I). Though the trip was sharp for Guest Connections, there was no denying her class as she picked up momentum in the final furlong and went away from her pursuer Perfect Rhythm. The lower division of the race saw Orpendale win as she pleased against the opposition who lacked the desired fitness to be of any threat to the favourite. Mani At Eighty did not find favour with the punters as the direction of the public money flowed towards Shaolin who had proved to be an expensive failure on more than one occasion. Jockey Suraj Narredu guided Mani At Eighty without the aid of the whip to a comfortable win over Shaolin who had all the chances but did not have the wherewithal to win. In the day’s other action, Sunlaa recorded a repeat win even as favourite Time of Life ran into a wall of horses in the final furlong and then ran into a road block!
