Trainer Anupam Sharma leading Escalante (K Mukesh Kumar Up), winner of The Bhagyanagar Juvenile Million

Trainer Anupam Sharma was in the limelight at the races on Tuesday, saddling a quadruple that took him to the top of the trainers’ tally. His ward Escalante (Chevalier-Ekofisk) won the feature event of the day, the Bhagyanagar Juvenile Million. Racing a handy fourth till turning for home, Escalante started to make his bid from around the front running Morning Miracle and Rock Baby Rock. Morning Miracle held on to the lead till the last 200 metres but Escalante who was ridden out by K.Mukesh Kumar galloped strongly to forge ahead. Rock Baby Rock gained momentum towards the closing stages to beat Morning Miracle for the second place.

S.S.Faisal Hassan’s Make Your Day (Gaswar-Angel Face) pulled off a stunning upset in the R.C.T.C.Cup, a 1200 metres sprint for horses in the highest category. The 5 year old filly shot to the lead from draw one as the dozen runners were dispatched and kept kicking in the straight. Tejaswini and Ashok Chakra toiled hard to get to the winner but failed in their attempt and ended up second and third respectively with Proof and Santa Monica also joining them in that order in a blanket finish for the minor places.

Anupam’s Symbol Of Choice (Roi Maudit-Silver Grey) who is in rousing form completed a hat-trick in the Sunny Blossom Plate. Sent off as an overwhelming favourite Symbol Of Choice showed plenty of speed to rush to the front and made every post a winning one under Deepak Singh. Whats Up finished second two lengths away while Bouncer was third another 2 ¼ lengths adrift.

Kianoosh (Ivory Touch-Twothousandfour) gave Anupam Sharma his hat-trick and that was topped up later by Royal Gold in the concluding race to make it four for the day. Kianosh jumped out well from eight draw and quickly headed towards the rails to be close behind the leaders A Horizontal Urge and Star Engagement. Entering the straight Star Engagement got to the lead and Kianosh was quickly in chase. Kianoosh travelled the better with 250 metres left and surged ahead easily. Star Engagement held on to the second position from the favourite Pakat Pakat Pakat. A Horizontal Urge filled the judge’s frame.

Royal Gold (Sylvanite-Monochrome) who had remained a maiden from sixteen starts was sent off as the favourite for the lower division of the Perceived Value Plate and the grey gelding won the sprint in an impressive fashion. Settling well on the haunches of Nano Class early, Royal Gold took charge approaching the distance post and stretched out nicely to wrap it up. Walloper, Well Wisher and Nano Class filled the judge’s frame in that order.

Trainer K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Gayle Force (Gaswar-Calliope) shed its maiden ranks in the higher division. Chandraja took the lead early and Gayle Force positioned itself well behind the leader. Inside the last 400 metres Gayle Storm was pushed out hard by apprentice Md.Sameeruddin and the 4 year old responded well to surge forward. Typhoon came in with a late run but Gayle Force was safe home by half a length. Chandraja finished third another three lengths adrift.

L.D’Silva trained Laurel Canyon (Noverre-Shao / Sohna Stud) upset the applecart of the favourite Vijays Triumph in the Hovercraft Plate. In Reality was in the lead on entering the straight with the favourite Vijays Triumph in chase. Laurel Canyon who was racing all the way along the fence improved to be third passing the 400 metres board. Jockey Deepak Singh pulled out Laurel Canyon to make a bid from the outside and the 6 year old sprang a surprise with a fast gallop to nail Vijays Triumph in the last stride. In Reality finished third.

Trainer L.D’Silva had earlier in the day saddled the biggest upset of the day with Stole A March (Roi Maudit-Yorkshire) in the higher division of the Pleasure Hunt Plate. The favourite City Of Wonders had taken charge inside the last 200 metres and was looking good when Stole A March came with a sizzling gallop to down the favourite.

The favorite Manogamini (Stern Opinion-Sylvia Says) from trainer M.Srinivas Reddy’s stables justified the favouritism in the lower division. Racing a handy second behind Pamella as they came in to the straight, Manogamini surged forward to grab the lead. Aakash Vani came up well along the fence to forge ahead but the strong riding of P.S.Chouhan enabled Manogamini to regain the lead and hold on from the late effort of Wine N Dine from the outside. Rolls Roycee was withdrawn before the race.
