Trainer Rakesh leading Obelinna Princess (Ryan Marshall Up), winner of The M.Govindappa Memorial Trophy

S.Rakesh trained Obelinna Princess (Kingda Ka-Obelinna / Nanoli Stud), the one who had the best credentials among the five runners in the M.Govindappa Memorial Trophy, a 2000 metres trip for horses rated 60 and above, lived up to her top billing with a pillar to post victory. Sent off at cramped odds, Obelinna Princess set off to lead the pack as they were despatched, followed by Precious Replica, Star Mountain, Spiritual Blue and Rocketeer trailing behind. Obelinna Princess was still travelling easily in front on top of the straight and jockey Ryan Marshall had a look behind to see if he had to shift another gear. Spiritual Blue was the only one among the rest who tried to give a challenge but the filly in front was in complete control and Spiritual Blue could only finish second. For the record Star Mountain was a faraway third.

Debutante Dare The Don (Varenar-Balance de Power / Equus Stud) won the first race of the day, the Mysore Zoo Plate, a six furlongs sprint for maiden 3 year old horses. Dare The Don after jumping well with the field was pushed by S.R.Santosh Kumar to get to the lead. Inside the last 400 metres Dare The Don built up a lead of over four lengths despite the young gelding showing signs of hanging in. The lead came in handy as the favourite Cosmic Touch started to close up the gap in the last 100 metres but failed by a neck at the wire. Cosmic Touch was reported to have returned lame on its left fore. Beautiful Revenge finished third.

S.Srinivas Babu trained Majestic Queen (Mr.Mellon-Band Of Gold / Ruia Stud) who has been performing well lately, scored her second win of the season in the division I of the Sangam Plate. Shooting through to hit the front at start, Majestic Queen led all the way to be about two lengths ahead of Bourbon Street on entering the final straight. Majestic Queen stepped up the pace to keep it going and Protector Of Paris began to move up around Bourbon Street. The progress of Protector Of Paris was slightly hindered with Bourbon Street lugging out under pressure. After surging past Bourbon Street, Protector Of Paris came up fast from the inner path to join Majestic Queen at the finish but was short by a slender ‘head’. Capitano took the third spot in front of Bourbon Street.

C.V.G.K.Kishore trained Divine Love (Oath-Royal Haven / Pratap Stud) scored an impressive victory in the lower division. After a good start Divine Love settled nicely in third initially behind Ayahuasca and Speedy Amigo but finding the filly too keen, jockey Arshad Alam let her go and she was quickly in the lead even before heading for the home straight. Divine Love was clear inside the last 300 metres and Bold Nature once again tried to come in late but could only finish second. Speedy Amigo and Mother Ewa finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer Ranjeet Shinde and jockey Shobhan combined to pull off a double through Beautiful Green and Royal Prodigy. Beautiful Green (Storm Trooper-Royal Yavarro / Vikram Greenlands Stud) gathered momentum inside the last 200 metres to win the Ajantha Plate by a lengthening margin. Supreme Strength set off on a start to finish mission with the race favourite Magnetic Power covering places early on to be on the haunches of the leader. Beautiful Green had settled well in third. Inside the last 300 metres Magnetic Power surged forward to take up the running but failed to sustain when Beautiful Green began to challenge. Beautiful Green stretched out to spare six lengths to Iridium finishing second ahead of Zamindar. Shining Fame filled the judge’s frame while Magnetic ended fifth with bleeding nostrils.

Royal Prodigy (Royal Gladiator-Bountiful Gesture / Pratap Stud) was a good coup by the connections in the Vijayawada Plate, the last race of the day. There was spirited betting on the 8 year old and the odds plummeted to be almost at par with the top two fancies in the race. Racing in mid-field till the last 600 metres Royal Prodigy made a quick move to grab the lead on entering the straight and successfully pulled it off by a good two and a half lengths. Pamushana warmed up late to finish second in a cluster with Queens Colour and For Your Eyes Only.

Gayle Storm (Mudeer-Light Cargo / Lingwood Stud) from the stables of S.Rakesh who was winless from eighteen starts made it to the winning post easily in the Gersoppa Plate. Gayle Storm had the tendency to hang out badly and that was a big concern for the trainer as the bay rig had lost out due to this habit despite being fancied on many occasions. Trainer S.Rakesh going by his instincts decided to keep the horse’s left eye blinded and the trick worked wonders. Gayle Storm kept a straight course and won easily.  Jockey Ryan Marshall held Gayle Storm in fourth close to the fence while Halia led the field followed by Tandav and Rising Affairs. Entering the home stretch Gayle Storm slipped in along the rails to take over the running and draw clear from Tandav who failed to maintain a straight course. Rising Affairs and Chelalee finished third and fourth respectively.

S.Santosh Kumar trained Golden Steps (Don Michelleto-Miraflores / Nakul Stud) who had moved up by one class after shedding her maiden status a fortnight ago scored an encore in the higher division of the Formal Invitation Plate. Golden Steps came to challenge the leader Dance With Me on top of the straight and surged forward passing the distance post. Indian came covering ground from the rear but Golden Steps had by then passed the winning post by a long neck. Napolean Dynamite charged in with a late effort to finish third in front of Natural Nine.

So Good To Se You (Glory Of Dancer-Dance In The Stars / Manju Meadows Stud), owned and trained by M.Bobby scored its maiden win in the lower division. The top weighted Delta Delight tried start to finish tactics and was still in front as they came into the last furlong. So Good To Se You began to get stronger from the outside and surged ahead to score by a length and a half. Chandini made a late half- hearted effort to end up third while the favourite Abbas Dreams managed to make it to the frame.
