KING CHARLES LIFTS ALCOCK ARABIAN MILLION

The curtains came down over the Hyderabad Winter Season with a long drawn card of twelve races run on the concluding day. The end of season championship awards were given away at the end of the day. The trainer’s championship which was being closely contested was bagged by L.V.R.Deshmukh with 36 winners. Jockey P.S.Chouhan took the jockeys’ award with 45 points while N.S.Rathore was adjudged as the top apprentice with 13 winners. Quasar was the champion horse and Parade Queen with five wins from eight starts was the horse of the season.

Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy was the leading individual owner for having won the highest stakes, while M/s.Vijay Racing & Farms Pvt Ltd represented by Mr.Vijay Kumar Gupta & Mr.Susheel Kumar Gupta and Mr.Ahmed Alam Khan were the leading joint owners.

The last day’s honours went to trainer Laxman Singh who saddled a quadruple including King Charles in the Alcock Arabian Million – Grade III, the feature event of the day. Jockey D.K.Ashish rode the winner in the big one and two more for Laxman Singh. King Charles (Kingda Ka-Laserre / Nanoli Stud) chased the leader Masti all the way from the start over the seven furlongs trip and taking charge inside the last 300 metres gallantly held on by half a length from Escalante who was given a tough task of covering ground from the last position on the straight. Masti finished third. Angel Bell was withdrawn before the race.

K.Satheesh trained Super Falcon (Rock Of Gibraltar-Walk Beside) scored its fourth win of the season in the Prince Mouzam Jah Bahadur Memorial Cup, division I. Jumping out smartly from eleven draw Super Falcon rushed towards the inside but settled well in second finding Queen Of The Stars more eager to head the pack. Coming into the last 400 metres Super Falcon shot ahead and kicked on gamely even as Magical Spell from the outside and Decathlon on the inside rallied strongly. Ashok Chakra flew in late to finish second in front of Magical Spell and Decathlon. Aventus was a non-starter in the race.

Laxman Singh’s Policy Maker (Home Affairs-Admiration / Mebajeona Stud) pulled off a clear win in the lower division of the Category I race, to make it the fourth win on the trot. Make Your Day was in the lead from the start and brought the field into view on the straight with a good lead. Jockey D.K.Ashish improved Policy Maker quickly into striking position entering the straight and with an easy trust surged to the front passing the distance post. Emerald Reef and Brahmani came in to beat Make Your Day to the fourth position.

Laxman Singh picked up both the divisions of the Appeaser Plate. Vijay Sakhi (Tagula-Markova) justified the favouritism in the higher division. Ridden by apprentice S.S.Tanwar Vijay Sakhi shot to the lead inside the last 200 metres with a good spurt and stretched well. Racing Ruler and Rumaiya Vastavaiya finished second and third respectively. True Haven was withdrawn before the race.

Humraaj (C P west-Samarinda) was given a confident ride by D.K.ashish to lift the lower division. Humraaj was very keen in the early stages and got to the lead within the first 200 metres and never looked back after that. Azazil was galloping fast from behind to finish second ahead of Gayle Force.

Trainer K.Satheesh saddled his double through half money favourite Wine N Dine (Noverre-Lenwade) in the lower division of the Wilkinson Plate, a 1200 metres sprint for 3 year old maiden horses. The grey filly who had found one better in her last three starts shot to the front at start and made every post a winning one. Sketck Of Beauty tried her best to get to the winner but could only reduce the margin to a length and a quarter.   

Debutante Chal Dhannu Chal (Rebuttal-Czai) from M.Srinivas Reddys stables was ridden to victory in the higher division by Imran Chisty. Tracking Moon Walker all the way from the beginning Chal Dhannu Chal took charge mid-way up the straight and drew clear. Wishing Heart rallied on to be third.

Trainer Donald Netto and jockey Louis Beuzelin teamed up to pull off a double, winning both the divisions of the Oceanic Plate. Parade Queen (Captain Rio-Romancing) won the higher division, her fifth of the season and the fourth successive one. The filly was adjudged as the horse of the season for her efforts of winning five races from eight starts. Tracking Mrilani till the last 300 metres Parade Queen surged ahead and the rider Beuzelin kept her going till the finish even as Always Together made a late dash to be the runner-up a short-head behind.

C Eleven (Mathematecian-Crown Character) tracked Numinous till approaching the distance post and travelled the better to justify the favouritism in the lower division. Symbol Of Glory and Aston Doulton filled the judge’s frame in that order.

Trainer L.V.R.Deshmukh who was level in points with Anupam Sharma in the trainers’ tally as the day started, pulled off a solitary win through Strides Of Luck (Carule-Stroke Of Luck) in the lower division of the Patrons Cup. Dancing Farha had taken charge on the final straight and Strides Of Luck began to close the gap inside the last 150 metres. With apprentice Ajit Singh keeping his nerve and riding out till the wire, the 15-1 shot Strides Of Luck managed to stick out its neck and prevail at the finish. The favourite Aggressive Approach was third another three and a half lengths away.

Trainer M.Sathyanarayana’s ward Atlas Star (Placerville-Seriously Stunning / A B Stud) who had made a late debut successfully won the higher division to complete an encore. Chasing Golden Phoenix right from the start Atlas Star forged ahead easily inside the final furlong and drew clear. Italian Cypress and Khalis Gold finished third and fourth respectively.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Home Town Hero (Rebuttal-Angarika) completed a hat-trick in the Rocky Plate. Jockey P.S.Chouhan settled the grey gelding nicely along the inner fence all along and entering the straight pulled out to challenge the favourite Lopamudra who was always in front and surged ahead effortlessly. Blue Eyed Babe charged in late to finish second. Flower Roll Up and Santa Monica filled the judge’s frame in that order.
