MOORE PACKS A GUINEAS DOUBLE ON LEGATISSIMO
By Racing Correspondent | 03 May 2015 |
Jockey Ryan Moore packed a Guineas double when he piloted David Wachman trained Legatissimo to victory in the G1 Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. It was a Guineas double for the main owner Micheal Tabor as well, having led in his ‘colours’ in the 2000 Guineas a day earlier.
The daughter of Danehill Dancer tasted Guineas success within a week after winning the Listed Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes at Gowran Park. Sent off at 13-2 for the second classic of the season Legatissimo was held back towards the rear along the stands’ side early in the race with Lucida giving company while Redstart, Queen Nefertiti and Tiggy Wiggy set off on a strong pace. Approaching the last two furlongs jockey Kevin Manning made his move on Lucida to hit the front. Ryan Moore guided Legatissimo between rivals and shot past Lucida to pull it off by three parts of a length. Tiggy Wiggy and Malabar finished third and fourth respectively.
"They went a good gallop and I was always confident," said Ryan Moore. "She stayed really well in the last furlong and she’ll get further. She’s a very handy filly and she loved the quick ground."
Trainer David Wachman savouring his first British Classic success said: "She's a lovely, big scopy filly and Ryan gave her a nice ride. We've always liked her and we weren't concerned coming back in trip. We were worried we were running her back too quickly but we thought we'd take our chance. She'll get further but we'll discuss where we go next. She's a very good filly."
