Trainer G Srinivas Babu leading Majestic Queen (Saddam Hussain Up), winner of The Nairn Trophy

The 6 year old bay mare Majestic Queen (Mr.Mellon-Band of Gold / Ruia Stud) surprised everyone with a wire to wire win in the Nairn Trophy. Majestic Queen was going over the seven furlongs trip for the first time in her career and was always known to be speedy customer over shorter sprints. Jockey Saddam Hussain took her to the front at start and started to build up on the lead. With 400 metres left Majestic Queen had built up a big leeway of over six lengths and was not showing any signs of packing up. Demanding Format along with Cinch looked to be closing the gap inside the last 150 metres while the favourite Sofast was ridden out close to the rails without much success. Majestic Queen began to slow down as the winning post approached and the three came swooping down but she managed to hold on to the lead by a neck at the wire. Cinch finished second while Sofast warmed up rather late to be third ahead of Demanding Format.

Trainer M.Bobby sent out a treble, starting with Bestow as a shocker in the opener and then leading in well backed Haute Ecole and Starsonboard.

Bestow (Mr.Mellon/ Regal Fantasy / Ruia Stud) scored an impressive victory on debut in the Somwarpet Plate. Racing wide off the field all the way, the filly started to gain ground approaching the distance post and surged past with ease. The favourite Silver Prince began to shift out while making its bid and was clearly beaten by Bestow. Your Honour Unfair finished in the money ahead of Invincible Wish. Giralda and After The Beep were non-starters in the race.

The second win came through Haute Ecole (Ace-Persepolis / Greenfields Stud) in the very next race, the Heggadevanakote Plate. Sent in as the first favourite at 5-2, Haute Ecole set off to lead the pack at start and made every post a winning one. Vrajanandan found the path along the rails wide open and rushing towards it on entering the straight came charging but jockey M.Prabhakaran kept the favourite going till the winning post to pull it off by a neck. Supreme Strength beat Badshah by a slender margin for the third place. Princess Of Syria was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Starsonboard (Mull of Kintyre-Star Queen / Manjri Stud) won the lower division of the Kaginele Plate. Racing close to the fence in about fifth till turning for home, Starsonboard started to challenge the top weighted Getafix who had made the first move on entering the straight and easily surged ahead to take charge. Getafix was in futile chase thereafter to be the runner-up. Final Countdown rallied on to finish third in front of Ice Weapon.

Md Sajid Qureshi trained Alabama (Ajaad-Aldiora / Kunigal Stud) turned out to be the biggest upset of the day in the higher division. Alabama tracked the fancied Speedy Amigo into the last 300 metres and challenging from the outside travelled the better to score by a length. Dark William was third another length adrift after a sluggish start.

P.C.Tejaswi trained Markus Sittikus (Imtiyaz-All The Rage / Broadacres Stud) carried the top weight of 62.5 kilograms to victory in the higher division of the Takshashila Plate. Kaguya Himei who was backed down to the exclusion of the other runners tried start to finish tactics over the 1400 metres distance. Markus Sittikus came out to challenge the favourite inside the last 300 metres and surged ahead easily with 100 metres left from the finish. Kaguya Himei held on to the second place. Always on Top and Tempest finished third and fourth respectively.

Vishal Yadav’s Ruthba (Verglas-Wavertree Girl / Hazara Stud) scored a very impressive maiden win in the lower division. The 4 year old grey filly just on her second start raced in fourth till entering the straight while Bucethalis set off in front, followed by Oceana and Silver Oak. Passing the distance marker Ruthba picked up momentum instantly when asked to quicken and raced away like a champion. It would be prudent to follow her when saddled next. Bucethalis at 8 years stayed on in second while Oceana finished third in front of Silver Oak.

M.Pratap Kamath trained Tandav (Tejano-Saangre Azul / Kunigal Stud) who was winless from 25 starts finally found the winning post in the Ranibennur Plate. Despite being a maiden Tandav was strongly fancied for the mile trip, sent out at 14-10. Racing a handy third till approaching the last 600 metres Tandav took charge swiftly and kicked on gamely from Saratoga Spring. Ayman and Echota finished third and fourth respectively.
