STAR OF SEVILLE SHINES IN DIANE

Star of Seville gave trainer John Gosden and jockey Frakie Dettori their second Classic success after the G1 Investec Epsom Derby eight days ago with a smashing triumph in the G1 Prix de Diane Longines, also known as the French Oaks, at Chantilly on Sunday. The daughter of Duke of Marmalade who had a disappointing run in the G1 Epsom Oaks nine days ago after encountering severe traffic snarls  got off to a solid start from 15 draw in a 17 horses field away from the bunch and Dettori was quick to get her to track the leader Clarmina. Approaching the last quarter mile pole Star of Seville took charge readily from the weakening Clarmina and looked a winner well before the finish. Physiocrate was the only visible challenge from behind but that was not enough to get to the winner and ended up to be second a length away. Little nightingale was third while Desiree Clary finished fourth.

A delighted Dettori on his double classic success in just a week commented, "It's just like 2007, when I won the Derby and then the Prix de Diane. To do it twice is unbelievable. She is such a strong filly and she loves this ground and this trip. She is such a strong filly and she loves this ground and this trip. She won well and I'm delighted.”

"It is a dream come true to win this race, as I have been raving about it for years," said trainer John Gosden. "It is a great day with a great atmosphere. This filly is very good and was actually lucky to be knocked over in the Oaks, because it meant she had no race at all and so could come here so soon after."
