SOLOW SCORES A POPULAR VICTORY IN QUEEN ANNE

By Racing Correspondent | 16 Jun 2015 |

Solow (Maxime Guyon Up), wins the Queen Anne Stakes Gr.1

Freddy Head trained Solow justified the favouritism in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes on day one at the Royal Ascot. Having won its last two starts, the G1 Dubai Turf and the G1 Prix d’lspahan at Longchamp last month, Solow was sent off as the favourite among the eight contenders for the mile trip. Jockey Maxime Guyon had the grey gelding racing close to the pace setting Toormore in third. Solow was driven to the front with a furlong and a half left and he stayed well ahead by a length from fellow French raider Esoterique at the finish. Cougar Mountain flashed on from the rear to finish third, a neck behind the runner-up.

“It’s amazing, just before the race we were wondering if he could win, but today he was the boss,” said Guyon. “This year it’s a new job for me [riding for the Wertheimer brothers] so to win a Group 1 at [Royal] Ascot for them is amazing.”
