Trainer G Srinivas Babu leading Flash Drive (Saddam Hussain up), winner of The RWITC Trophy

G Srinivas Babu trained Flash Drive (Sedgefield-Fabulous Fiorella / Jai Govind Stud) which had won its first start at Mysore after shifting base from Mumbai four weeks ago, did it again in the Royal Western India Turf Club Ltd., Trophy, the main event of Wednesday’s six races card at Mysore. Settled to run second last in the early part while Carisa led the pack followed by Obelinna Princess. Flash Drive started to improve from around the field and by the time they showed up on the home stretch, surged clear and extended well to be five lengths in front of Spiritual Blue. Society finished third and raised an unsuccessful objection against the winner for interference at the 500 metres. Obelinna Princess ended up fourth.

The favourite in the race, Glorious light, finished a tame seventh and this run is best ignored as the rider could not offer any assistance throughout the trip. The ‘Girth’ that holds the saddle had loosened from the buckle and was dangling in the air. “I was hanging out to dear life”, said jockey Keanen Steyn after returning to the unsaddling enclosure. Trainers ought to be more careful while saddling their wards, especially when they carry the public purse on their back. One only hopes that the concerned trainer was pulled up by the stewards for an explanation.

Kaguya Himei (Dancing Forever-Hazel Eyes / Hazara Stud) under the care of trainer Vishal Yadav shed her maiden status in the Republican Plate, the opener of the day. Roi Junior set off in front from the start and Kaguya Himei came up nicely from an outward draw to chase the leader. Entering the straight the filly surged ahead to take charge and won undisputed. Midnight Breeze finished second while Generous Gesture ended up third. Giralda was withdrawn near the gates on veterinary grounds.

Trainer P.C.Tejaswi sent out winners in both the divisions of the Kodlipet Plate. Markus Sittikus (Imtiyaz-All The Rage / Broadacres Stud) scored an easy win in the higher division. Tracking Ice Splendour till the last 600 metres, Markus Sittikus took over the running and staved off Storming Home’s bid towards the closing stages. Stable mate Albatross finished third in front of Guapo.

Bucethalis (Burden of Proof-Ching Mai / Kunigal Stud) won the lower division. The 8 year old who had found one better in its last two starts, both during the current month, made every post a winning one after being backed to the exclusion of the other runners. Aristomache chased the winner all the way over the 1200 metres and finished second three parts of a length away. Reanna finished third.

Zareer Darashah trained Blue Zone (Noverre-Isle of Mull / Sohna Stud) lifted the Red Rufus plate. Whips were not allowed in the race and jockey Neeraj Rawal had Blue Zone prominently behind the leader Flirting King in the first two furlongs. Pushing his way through, he had Blue Zone in the lead passing the 800 metres board and stayed clear till the finish. Black Dragon and Brigadier who were both lethargic at the start, missing over two lengths each, rallied in late to finish second and third respectively.

S.Santosh Rao trained Small Cruise (Eljohar-Stormy Look / Mukteshwar Stud) was ridden relentlessly by Arshad Alam to lift the Talakaveri Plate. Carrying the lowest weight on its back among the eleven runners, Small Cruise set off in front with Oro Plata disputing the lead all the way into the straight. With about 300 metres left from home Ora Plata surged forward to take over from Small Cruise and was looking to pull it off having taken a length lead. Jockey Arshad Alam continued to ride out Small Cruise and the filly came charging with a re-run along the rails to head past the tiring Ora Plata. Ophira who was ridden all out by Neeraj Rawal could only manage to finish second half a length behind the winner. Oro Plata tired out to be third.
