Trainer Kishore C V G K leading Class Is Class (Y S Srinath Up), winner of The Koramangala Plate

C.V.G.K.Kishore trained Class is Class (First Samurai-Special Tapestry / Jai Govind Stud) lived up to its name while annexing the Koramangala Plate, a seven furlongs trip for horses rated 60 and above. The 6 year old chestnut gelding had advertised its form when finishing an impressive second to Fink a fortnight ago and was rightly imposed as the favourite at 17-10 despite assigned to carry a back breaking weight of 64.5 kilograms. Jockey Y.S.Srinath was declared to guide its fortunes and he did that to perfection. Catharsis set off in the lead right from the start and Srinath settled Class is Class nicely in second about two lengths away from the leader. Entering the last two furlongs Class is Class was nursed well by the rider to get to the front and kept the valiant effort of Precious Replica till the end. Catharsis finished third with Castle King taking the fourth spot.

M Bobby trained Distant Promise (Mr.Mellon-Over The Ocean / Ruia Stud) rallied strongly along the inner ground to wrap up the S V Subramaniam Memorial Trophy. The speedy Flying Tricolour set the pace followed closely by Champion Star and the pair travelled that way till into the home stretch. Distant Promise racing more with the rear bunch initially, started to weave through the field inside the last 400 metres and with jockey Nitin Singh opting to take the shortest way, the 8 year old spurted nicely to settle the issue well before the winning post. Gunpowder kept Demanding Format at bay all through the last 200 metres to finish second.

Md Sajid Qureshi trained Breezo (Hymn-Colonel’s Dream / Jai Govind Stud) trounced the field in the opener, the Evita Plate. Yamas had taken charge within the first two furlongs and was looking to pull it off from the favourite Kolaveri Di when Breezo, racing fifth till coming into the straight shifted to the wide outside and with a sizzling run drew away by a distance. Yamas stayed on to be second while Kolaveri Di laboured hard to take the third place.

Manjri Stud bred Dragon (Phoenix Tower-Dramatikos), on debut, won the Whitefield Plate but not before giving heartaches to his supporters. Invincible Wish and Diamond Attraction disputed the lead all the way into the home stretch. Passing the 400 metres board Silver Prince surged ahead and was looking good inside the last furlong. Dragon who looked a lost cause at that juncture was pulled out by Keanen Steyn and the gelding galloped strongly although erratic and sped past Silver Prince in the shadow of the winning post. Invincible Prince finished third in front of Sazae San.

Ground Marshall (Ontario-Madam Brady / Hazara Stud) from trainer K Somashekar’s stables caused a flutter while nosing out Thundering Cruise at the post in the Shivajinagar Plate. With money flowing on it, Thundering Cruise got backed down from longer odds to be the second favourite. The favourite Wilderness was withdrawn after refusing to get stalled and the chances of Thundering Cruise was enhanced further. Into the home stretch Charm And Dream came in first and led till the distance post. Thundering Cruise got stronger from the outside and surged past to take charge inside the last furlong. Golden Steps and Ground Marshall started to challenge and it was the latter who inched closer with every stride and get its nose in front at the wire. Golden Steps finished third.

A coup was well encashed by the connections of Jamais Vu in the Mudigere Plate. Pratap Kamath trained Jamais Vu in only her second start at 4 years received strong support in the betting, sent off as the second favourite at 7-2 even under an unknown rider Nazim in this part of the country. Jamais Vu took charge passing the 800 metres and was never in any threat all through the final straight. Mountain Glory beat the rest for the second place while Friends Forever came in third.

Bipin V Salvi’s Capitano (Major Impact-Trace of Magic / Manjri Stud) who had no recent form to go by shattered the hopes of jackpot hunters in the final leg, the lower division of the S.V.Subramaniam Memorial Trophy. The 7 year old who paid a dividend of Rs.315 for a tenner on win, tracked the leader Aanchal Beauty till the last 100 metres and surged past to spare 1 ¾ lengths at the finish. The favourite Over Shadow could only get the better of Robinhood Pandey for the third place.
