Trainer L V R Deshmukh leading Vijays Joy (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The C.R.Bhoopal Memorial Cup

L.V.R.Deshmukh schooled Vijays Joy (Stern Opinion-Jia Yoh Jia Yoh / Lumbini Stud) outclassed its opponents with a touch of class in the C R Bhoopal Memorial Cup which featured Friday’s card at Hyderabad. The grey gelding had returned from Bangalore after finishing a runner-up in both its starts there including the Juvenile Sprinters’ Million. The 3 year old being the youngest among the dozen runners was sent off as money-back favourite for the sprint.

Parade Queen led the field followed by Shamrock Lady and Vijays Joy had settled nicely in third as they approached the last three furlongs. Moving into the home stretch Vijays Joy cruised ahead with the rider P.S.Chouhan not moving a muscle. As the early leaders started to fade out, Sherman Oaks beat the rest to finish second. Golden Arrow and Aventus finished third and fourth respectively.

Deshmukh and Chouhan had earlier come out trumps with Vijays Delight (Arazan-Castle Park / Poona Stud) in the Guntur Plate. Vijays delight was held back in third early when Professor shot to the front followed by Bellatrix. Inside the last 400 metres the filly surged to the lead and Chouhan nursed her nicely without using the stick on the youngster. Princess Hina was making a bid in the last furlong but that was in vain. Fabulous Jewel in the meanwhile bracing the rear in about tenth position was brought around the packed field all the way. Imran Chisty started to use the whip freely on the youngster and Fabulous Jewel moved menacingly close but Vijays Delight was safely home by a neck at the finish.

K.Satheesh trained Always Together (Noverre – Racy Description), a consistent performer during winter justified the strong support in the first division of the S S Cardmaster Memorial Cup. The filly was drawn widest among the twelve horses for the 1100 metres scurry. Apprentice N S Rathore did well to get her on an even start and moved gradually towards the inside to race third behind Roma Royal and Altruist. Inside the last 300 metres Roma Royal started to fade out and Altruist assumed charge. Always Together began to charge from the outside and it took some time for the filly to pick up momentum but once she did, drew away by three lengths. Rosemonde and Coral Springs filled the judge’s frame.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Blossom (Burden of Proof- Callista) pulled off an upset in the third division of the race, beating the overwhelming favourite Vijay Sakhi after a keen fight. Blossom showed plenty of speed to get to the front as they came out of the gates. The filly continued to bowl along in the lead coming into the final furlong and the favourite Vijay Sakhi began to throw a challenge from the outside. The two were ridden all out towards the closing stages and Blossom held out by three parts of a length at the finish. Symbol of Glory finished third.

Trainer Laxman Singh’s Humraaj (C P West-Samarinda) sent off at 6-4 in the division II of the scurry justified the support en-route to an encore. HUmraaj was a bit awkward while jumping out but apprentice S S Tanwar was quickly in control. Vista and Sprint Legend disputed the lead from the start and Humraaj was well up in third approaching the 600 metres board. Vista continued to stay in front inside the final 200 metres and Humraaj began to move up from the outside. The favourite surged ahead without much fuss and stretched out by a good three lengths.

Laxman Singh saddled his second winner through fancied Rocking Racer (Mull of Kintyre-Esoteric) in the Subash Chandra Bose Plate, the concluding race of the day. Rocking Racer chased Arudra till the top of the straight and surged ahead to take charge. While the winner was a clear length and three quarters at the wire, Kohinoor Thunder edged out Olympic Gold and Arudra for the second place.

Valee Secrete (Glory of Dancer-Miyamoto / Nanoli Stud) from the stables of trainer S S Faisal Hassan who spent the summer at Bangalore won the Anantapur Plate easily. The youngster was sent offas an on-money favourite for the sprint. Held back in second last among the six runners while Time For Fun set off on a start to finish bid, Vallee Secrete galloped effortlessly when set alight from the outside to sail past everyone and score by 3 ½ lengths. Time For Fun held on in second from Chal Dhannu Chal.

Rank outsiders emerger victorious in both the divisions of the Fond Hope Plate. K.V.Srinivas trained Oathofyourdaughter (Oath – Zanta) won the higher division. Symbol of Pride, PrideofMaduranagar and Trustful were joining up in a line with about 150 metres left and Oathofyourdaughter got stronger from the outside. Oathofyourdaughter surged ahead to win it from Symbol of Pride and Prideofmaduranagar. Trustful ended up fourth.

Par Excellence (Saffron Walden – Louve Decrete / Doaba Stud), owned and trained by L.D’Silva which had remained a maiden from 13 starts finally came out of it in the lower division. Racing third behind Naamdhari and Kintyre Princess till the last 400 metres Par Excellence tried to look for a run between the two. Kintyre Princess started to drift out and Par Excellence shifted in for a run. Finding the Princess moving in again Ajeet Kumar pulled out Par Excellence and despite an erratic run made it to the winning post.
