COVERT LOVE WINS THE IRISH OAKS

Trainer Hugo Palmer celebrated his first Classic success when his filly Covert love was given a perfect ride by Pat Smullen to slam the G1 Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh. Covert Love vied for lead early but was settled to chase when Together Forever broke into a long lead. Shaken to move approaching the furlong pole, Covert Love quickened to diminish the advantage and was soon in front. Jack Naylor made a strong bid coming from mid-field but Covert Love stayed on well to wrap it off by a length and three quarters. The favourite Curvy fought out with Jack Naylor and finished third a head behind.
"She was given an incredible ride and the race worked out perfectly," said Hugo Palmer. "Aidan's horse went off like a scalded cat and I just love the way Pat just let her go and made his own running. I was just waiting for those coming from behind to get to her but eventually they weren't going to get to us."
