Luca Cumani trained Postponed won the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, beating the favourite Eagle Top by a nose in a thrilling finish. The track battered by rain led to three horses, including the main contender Golden Horn along with The Corsican and Flintshire pulling out of the contest.

Romsdal set off to lead the pack with Postponed chasing in second. Approaching the final two furlongs Romsdal started to fade out, finally ending up third while Postponed grabbed the lead. The favourite Eagle Top closed up and led narrowly in the last furlong but jockey Andrea Atzeni got Postponed to rally strongly and get the nod at the post.

"It was a fantastic race and Andrea gave him a peach of a ride," said the winning trainer Luca Cumani. "He was ready for a mile and a half, he just wanted a good pace, but I wasn't sure about the ground - I didn't know whether he could handle it. They were locked together in battle and I didn't know who had won."
