Mr Zeyn Mirza & trainer S S Attaollahi leading Amazing Charm (Trevor Patel Up), winner of The Santorini Star Plate

The  Dr.Vijay Mallya  team  spearheaded by Zeyn Mirza produced another sterling effort after hogging the limelight on the Derby day, another treble and the leading trainer Sulaiman Attaollahi  after registering his maiden Derby success through Angel Dust will wear his first Champion trainer crown on the morrow.

The in-form Trevor Patel was at his brilliant best on the penultimate day of the season, booting home four winners. The top saddle artiste opened his account through the second in demand at the betting ring, Amazing Charm (Burden of Proof - Efrhina / Kunigal Stud) in the Santorini Star Plate run over a distance of 2000 metres before he packed punch on the on-money favourite Sea Lord to score in the Southern Regent Trophy. The good looking son of Admiralofthefleet out of Loch Katrine from the Kunigal Stud Farm, who it must be mentioned has still not furnished fully made every post a winning one, easily thwarting the challenge of the Padmanabhan schooled Saladin. The winner has big scope for improvement  and his progress in the months ahead is certain to evoke interest. Saladin, it was clear was beaten by a much better horse and he will shed his maiden status if his connections choose to campaign him in the Mysore season.

In line for a hat-trick, Cameron, another Admiralofthefleet progeny was backed to the exclusion of his nine rivals in the Lt. Gaunt Memorial Cup run over a mile.  Trevor tracked the leader and his main rival Valiant Spirit for most part of the trip before he packed punch on the Sulaiman ward to snuff out the challenge of Valiant Spirit in the final furlong. New Alliance who had her share of followers looked very light in the parade ring and as a result failed to produce her true potential.

Trevor earlier piloted the Darius Byramji schooled Nimfea (Burden Of Proof - Soviet Lake/ Kunigal Stud) to a resounding win in the Tippu Sultan Cup. The winner who was knocking at the door hit the front the moment the dozen runners came under the starter’s flag and never let the initiative slip. Shrewd Master finished second ahead of the favourite Ungoogleable  who has reached his mark while New Emperor took the fourth spot.

Delhi challenger Let The Lion Roar roared past (Mr Mellon - Aliventi / Ruia Stud) the opposition in the Leading Stud Cup, a ten furlong handicap for horses rated 60 and above, as the day’s feature. Surprisingly Lucia from Irfan Ghatala’s yard garnered maximum support but the filly who had impressed most in her last effort was in no mood to raise a gallop and eventually finished in the ruck. Golconda Derby winner Spreadeagle after streaking ahead at the top of the straight looked good to score before Arshad Alam setalight the Delhi star and the winner stormed through to score in emphatic fashion. Spreadeagle finished  second ahead of Magnitude Star.

The upper division of the Mystic Memory Plate run over a sprint produced a shock winner, the Puttanna schooled Will Star (Duja - Zante / Pratap Stud) in the hands of apprentice jockey Nazeer-ul-Alar,  making every post a winning one.  The topweighted Super Force was seen finishing on fastest at end  as he nosed out Remembrance of You for the runner-up berth in a three-horse cluster finish for the runner-up berth.

After failing to score twice, from her last two attempts Arjun Mangalorkar trained Downton Abbey (Abbeyside  - Windunderherwings / Dashmesh Stud) finally made her owners proud winning the Star Contender Plate in effortless style. One Big Gang was again fancied most by the connections but he again found one better. Taqdeer Ka Badshah caught the eye while finishing third and is one for the notebook.

In a race contested by mediocre horses who are struggling to break the ice, Celestial Storm beat Fioroloco to win the upper division of the Belmont Park. Private Party was third a neck behind the runner-up.

Hidayat Khan trained Mystic Lavenders (Danehill Star - Viva Candy / Galloping Stud) who was running for the first time during the season, was obviously the superior horse in the fray for the lower division of the race. Mystic Lavenders got a run along the rails and the lesser fancied runner steadily gained ascendancy and had the race well sewn up long way from home. Kings Kid made a late rally to finish second.
