A small card of six races were framed for Sunday’s races at Hyderabad. The fields were also small with the tempo for the monsoon season is yet to pick up here. The Wanaparthy Cup, a 2000 metres trip for horses rated upto 75 in category II was the main event of the day. Donald Netto trained Parushuram (Equitable-Knight Vision / A B Stud) literally decimated the opposition with the least effort. The 4 year old gelding had taken a plunge in the Kolkata and Delhi Derby without much success before deciding to spend the summer at Bangalore.

The stint at Bangalore had done a world of good on Parushram’s fitness with the gelding winning the first outing of the season with minimal effort. Red Rambble set the pace early in the race with Parushram on its haunches and Jerrell in close attendance. The rest travelled further behind. Sent off as the raging favourite at 10-7 ‘on’, Parushram forged ahead to take charge approaching the last 800 metres and began to draw away from the pack on the home stretch with the rider A M Tograllu not having to do anything fancy. For the record Silver Passion, Jerrell and Star Player filled the judge’s frame.

Trainer Laxman Singh who has had a flying start to the season, saddled another double to take his tally to double figures. Jockey Kuldeep Singh was astride both the winners. His youngster Special Harmony (High Chaparral-Therry Girl / Chhatari Stud) earned its maiden win as an on-money favourite in the Deccan Star Plate, the opener of the day. After a good jump out, Special Harmony was settled back to run fourth while Rose ‘D’ Mumtaz called the shots followed by Silvassa and Coruba. Turning for home Special Harmony improved from the outside to challenge Rose ‘D’ Mumtaz and soon got to the front with utmost ease. Beau Sabreur fought out with Silvassa to finish second. Fair Fax was a non-starter in the race.

The second winner came through Meheran (C P West-Killarney) in the Rave Review Cup. The 4 year old who had a late beginning to its career, having started only this season, won on its second attempt. Meheran was racing in about sixth almost six lengths behind the leader even as they began to take the final bend. Golden Flash was the first to grab the lead on top of the straight and was looking good approaching the distance post but was no match when Meheran picked up momentum in the centre of the turf with a furlong left. Rumaiya Vastavaiya finished third ahead of Cloud Dancer.

Trainer K Satheesh was the only other professional to score a brace of winners. Time For Fun and Mighty Swing were the victors from the stable. Time For Fun (Noverre-West With The Wind) made every post of the 1200 metres sprint a winner in the Divine Dreams Plate. Speedy at start, Time For Fun rallied well to get to the fence to lead as the gates opened and held that advantage till turning for home. On the straight the filly started to move away from the pack and was in no danger with Chal Dhannu Chal and Island Bird making a late bid to end up second and third respectively.

Mighty Swing (Noverre-Farmers Swing) won the division II of the Dashmesh Stud Plate. The filly went on a start to finish bid but was made to work hard to hold on by a head from Celestial Fire who began to gallop strongly inside the last 150 metres. Roi’s Cruise was third another length adrift. Numinous finished fourth while the favourite Pegasus ended up a tame fifth.

L D’Silva trained Camborne (Equitable-Ferrari) on the track for the first time this season won the higher division by a decisive margin. Apprentice C S Vikrant took Camborne to the front from the word ‘go’ with the race favourite Symbol of Glory in chase. Silva’s ward kept kicking on inside the final furlong and extended the lead to win by 4 ¾ lengths. Symbol of Glory was under pressure inside the last 200 metres and lost out the second position to Rock Heights.
