Trainer S S Attaollahi leading Assiduous (Trevor Patel Up), winner of The H.H.Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy

Assiduous (Glory of Dancer-Dance With Style / Nanoli Stud) scored a resounding victory in the H.H. Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy, the main event of Thursday’s races at Mysore. Trained by S S Attaolahi the 5 year old clocked a fast timing that was marginally slower than the course record and also its fastest over 1200 metres so far. Racing in about fifth close to the rails while Constantine called the shots, Assiduous took the shortest way to get behind the leader on top of the straight. Jockey Trevor Patel brought Assiduous from around Constantine with 400 metres left and when asked for an effort raised a fluent gallop to take charge and go away. Constantine stayed on in second while Clas is Class and Castle Stuart filled the judge’s frame.

Arjun Mangalorkar’s Quaker Ridge (Multidimensional-Allspice / Usha Stud) scored a runaway win in the Police Trophy, a seven furlongs race for 3 years old maiden horses. There was a rush for positioning with horses crowding up and Amazing Connection showed some speed to lead them. Jockey Suraj Narredu was not perturbed when he did not get a clear passage and settled Quaker Ridge in third last. As they started to round the final bend, Suraj brought Quaker Ridge quickly through the shortest way and grabbing the lead left the rest cold behind. Raziel started to drift out under pressure and still managed to hold on to the second place with Hunhar and Aqua Blessing taking the third and fourth places in a close finish. Amazing Khodal was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Jockey Y S Srinath kept his tally ticking with a double. Zareer Darashah’s Kir Royale in the opener of the day and R R Byramji’s Frankness in the M.W. Chinnappa Memorial Trophy were his winning mounts.

Frankness (Declaration of War-Fame Star / Lingwood Stud) ended up as the favourite after Oxford Opinion played up inside the gates and had to be withdrawn. Tracking Royal Shaan till the last 400 metres Frankness surged ahead without any hindrance and won easily. Irish Song finished second ahead of Bold Police who covered good ground from behind. Capitalise ended up fourth.

Kir Royale (Crrule-Royal Assault / Lumbini Stud) carried the top weight to earn its maiden win in the Panchagini Plate. The favourite Touch of Romance disputed the lead with Peppr right from the start and travelled the better on top of the straight. Kir Royale improved quickly from behind and with Srinath riding hard collared the favourite and emerged clear. Time Matters flashed on late along the fence but managed only to beat Touch of Romance. Kir Royale was safely home by three parts of a length. Jockey Srinath was charged with ‘dangerous riding’ in the race and he will have some explanation to do to avoid the stipulated punishment for such a charge. In his eagerness to get to position rounding the bend Srinath had forced his way through horses and that had resulted in Jump in the red stumbling and dislodging the rider.

Irfan Ghatala trained Brilliant Cut (Burden of Proof-Clear Cut / Kunigal Stud) won the Fairwood Plate in a very impressive fashion. Assertive Prince got to lead the pack approaching the 1200 meters and came in about two lengths in front of Colorato into the home stretch. Brilliant Cut came with a big run from the outside and swept past the two in front with a furlong left from home. She’s Stunning rallied in to take the second spot ahead of Colorato and Assertive Prince.

Mahmood Khan trained Royal Rein (Oath-Romantic Notes / Pratap Stud) spran a surprise in the higher division of the Psychic Strength Plate. Dar William tried to go in front from the start and was well ahead of Click and Accuracy with two furlongs left. Royal Rein started to raise a good gallop close to the fence and drew clear of Dark William. Real Steel failed to quicken at the right time and warmed up late to beat Dark William for the second place.

Azhar Ali trained Strombolite (Burden of Proof-Catch Fire / Kunigal Stud) was given a splendid ride by young Arshad Alam to win the lower division. The 5 year old shot ahead from draw one to hit the front. Hackett racing in close attendance began to challenge in the last 200 metres and the favourite Coolmore was getting stronger from the outside. Arshad Alam kept Strombolite going well close to the fence and held off Coolmore by half a length. Hackett finished third another half a length adrift. Ice Cutter was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Pratap Kamath’s Catchy Charger (Mambo Ministrella-Wisdom Queen / Bishan Stud) who had advertised her return to form in the previous start, came good to win the Eclipse Plate. Jockey G Sai Vamshi who replaced an injured Nitin Singh on Catchy Charger kept the filly in about fifth till turning for home while Flying Tricolour called the shots in its usual fashion. Getting stronger inside the last 150 metres even as Flying Tricolour tried to keep going, Catchy Charger forged ahead with about 50 metres from home. Silver Oak and Samson finished third and fourth respectively. The favourite Al Dahma reared up as the gates opened and the rider who lost his balance was dislodged.
