Trainer Neil Darashah leading Renee (Trevor Patel Up), winner of The J.H.Foley Memorial Trophy

Neil Darashah trained Renee (Glory of Dancer-Venus Arising / Nanoli Stud) won the J.H.Foley Memorial Trophy, a seven furlongs race for horses rated 60 and above that featured Friday’s races at Mysore. The filly in doing so set a new course record over the 1400 metres distance. Pentagram was the first to take the initiative on entering the straight and was going for it when Renee began to get stronger from the outside with a blistering turn of foot and sped past Pentagram for a decisive victory. “The pace was pretty fast and that helped my filly to bring out the best in her” said jockey Trevor who mesmerised the local crowd with a treble. New World who set the pace with Pentagram till the straight finished third with Jersey Shore taking the fourth spot.

Vishal Yadav trained Campeon (Black Cash-Eka / Equus Stud) sported a pair of wings while downing Teri Adah in the B.A.Nanaiah Memorial Trophy.  Teri Adah led the field from the word ‘go’ followed closely by Beautiful Effect and Magic Wave. Campeon was in fifth another five lengths behind as the entered the final run in. Teri Adah continued to hold the advantage as they entered the last 200 metres and Campeon burst into a terrific gallop from the outside to flash past by two lengths. Beautiful Effect was third another half a length away. Angel One was fractious near the gates and was withdrawn.

Trevor’s other two winners were Manta Ray and Humming Bird. Manta Ray (Diffident-Zephyrella / Yeravada Stud) staved off the spirited challenge of Cardigan Bay to lift the lower division of the Sidapur Plate. Taking a start from the outer most draw, Mantay Ray came in nicely to be on the haunches of Coffee Time. Trevor picked up the stick on Manta Ray passing the 400 metres pole and quickly ahead by over three lengths. The favourite Cardigan Bay came charging inside the last 150 metres, minimising the lead but Trevor’s thrust had Manta Ray ahead by half a length at the finish. Jet Set Go and Quarter Cask finished thoird and fourth respectively. Blizard of Oz was a non-starter.

Humming Bird (Phoenix Tower-Star Always / Manjri Stud) from the stables of G Nithyanand made every post a winning one in the division I of the T Dougall Memorial Plate. Trevor brought Humming Bird nicely from an outward draw quickly to hit the front. As they went past the furlong marker Trevor gave a couple of cracks to get the filly to keep going and she responded well to stretch out by 3 3/4 lengths. Sky Jasmine and Color Proof finished second and third respectively in a close finish. Soraya and Spiritofknowledge were withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Darius Byramji schooled Groovy Mooves (Arazan-La Moraleja) carried the silks of Manjri Stud to an effortless maiden win in the lower division. The filly got to the front to lead as the gates opened and brought them into view on the straight. Mr Big Shot was in futile chase throughout the last 400 metres but jockey Suraj Narredu had Groovy Mooves on a tight grip while extending the margin of victory. Churchil finished third ahead of Appy’s Glamour.

Feroz M Khan trained Cyclops (Sedgefield-Star Alydar / Jai Govind Stud) which had failed as a favourite just a week ago turned out to be a different customer in the higher division of the Sidapur Plate. Amigos set the ball rolling in front and Cyclops ran in close attendance along with Spanish Fly and Arziki following them. Moving into the last 400 metres Cyclops started to gallop strongly and grabbed the lead. Amigos was up with renewed effort to close the gap but Cyclops looked good under Nitin Singh to win by a neck. The favourite Arziki finished third a length and a half behind. Summer Gold, Ace Mesmerise, Go Green and Mountain Glory were non-starters in the race.

Jockey Arshad Alam gave a splendid ride on F Sirajuddin trained Blazing Touch (Sussex-Blazing Rhythm / Badal Stud) to score in the Jayanagara Plate. The on-money favourite Cherie Amour shot to the lead on top of the straight and Exactly began to challenge from the outside. As the two began to dispute the issue Blazing Touch sneaked in through the inner path with a terrific turn of foot and sped past in front of the grand stand. Exactly managed to peg back Cherie Amour by a neck for the second place.

A good touch by the connections of Perfect King (Express Wish-Shrone / Punjab Stud) paid dividends in the opener of the day, the S Hajee Memorial Plate. Sharat Kumar’s trainee came with a good gallop to challenge the first favourite Vito on entering the home stretch and surged ahead. Staying well in front after getting to the front Perfect King kicked on with Scorching in chase. Vito finished third.

Vishal Yadav trained 7 year old Demanding Format (Hymn-Flaming Bay / Jai Govind Stud), a veteran of over 60 starts pulled it off in the Nugu Dam Plate, the concluding race of the day. Bucethalis was on a start to finish bid and Color Me looked to be the only challenger with about 200 metres left from the winning post. Demanding Format started to raise a gallop from behind and with a flourish sped past to wrap it up.

Bucethalis held on to the second place from Color Me. Country’s Nobility finished third.

For the professionals Trevor Patel was the best with a treble while trainer Vishal Yadav and jockey Ajit Kumar teamed up to score a brace.
