By Madhukar Bhagawan | 14 Sep 2015 | HYDERABAD

Arudra (P Ajeeth Kumar Up), winner of The Hyderabad Veterinary College Diamond Jubilee Cup

Anupam Sharma trained Arudra (Ivory Touch-Over Power), a winner on Sunday carried the mandatory penalty of five kilograms on its back to repeat the performance on Monday in the Hyderabad Veterinary College Diamond Jubilee Cup. Arudra was neglected in the betting with the stable companion Shatakshi receiving strong support in the betting to be the second favourite. Shatakshi went in her customary fashion on a start to finish bid. Just when Shatakshi was looking good inside the last 150 metres came Arudra with a good turn of foot to deny the stablemate a win by three parts of a length. Trustful improved late to be a close third.

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Morning Miracle (Abbeyside-Actuate) justified the favouritism in the higher division of the Golconda Trophy. Apprentice Abhishek S Pawar brought Morning Miracle nicely from the outermost draw to be up in front by the time they approached the 1000 metres board. Keeping a handy lead till entering the straight Morning Miracle drew clear from Kalinda who was in chase all the way. Escalante and Khoshgel finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer K.S.V.Prasad Raju saddled a double through Bharat Princess and Chocolate Greedy, both of them at nourishing odds. Chocolate Greedy edged out Naamdhari in a blanket finish involving five horses. Racing in about sixth or seventh till the top of the straight while Killer Instinct called the shots, Chocolate Greedy was pulled out to make a bid and the progress was hindered briefly with Golden Flash rushing forward from the outside. Naamdhari, Pinky, and Lightening Streak also began to come up menacingly along with Chocolate Greedy and Prasad Raju’s 5 year old gelding prevailed by a neck at the finish. Naamdhari, Pinky and Golden Flash filled the board in that order.

Bharat Princess (Kingada Ka-Pickwick Papers / Nanoli Stud) won the higher division of the Swamy Ramananda Tirtha Plate, a 1200 metres sprint for maiden 3 year old horses. Time Is Luck and Poll Propise were battling it out on moving into the last 400 metres when Bharat Princess began to get up from the wide outside from second last position. Jockey Carlos Henrique began to urge Bharat Princess strongly and the filly responded with a flourish to settle the issue. Nothing But Wind charged in late to deny Poll Promise the runner-up berth. Time Is Luck lost out to be fourth.

M. Sathyanarayana schooled Karromshade (Rebuttal-Phoenix) which had found one better in its last two starts finally made it to the winner’s circle in the lower division. Jockey P. Trevor had to work hard to get the gelding who was hanging in throughout the straight to be brought on even keel and head past the relentless Moon Walker. Sketch of Beauty finished third ahead of Power Star.

Jockey Carlos Henrique rode his double through Anupam Sharma’s Roma Royal in the higher division of the Karimnagar Plate. Sprint Legend, Fair And Square and Red Express were almost in a line as the came in for the last two furlongs. Roma Royal was racing just behind them. The 4 year old filly began to improve between horses and surged ahead to take a slender lead. Red Express was back with renewed vigour but Henrique rode out Roma Royal to pull it off by a head. Sprint Legend finished third ahead of Big Boss.

Trainer Arjun Anne who was licenced recently saddled the first winner of his career through Numinous (Opportunist-Habibi) in the lower division. Numinous showed plenty of speed at start to hit the front and made every post a winning one. Approaching the final furlong Numinous had established a good lead of about four lengths and that came in handy towards the closing stages to stay clear of Rubyonrails and Fruit Roll Up who came together to finish second and third respectively.

K.R.K.Raju trained Kohinoor Charm (Equitable-Corn Fleur), winless from 19 starts finally came good to score a maiden win in the Royal Tern Plate. Chasing Hunter’s Pride all the way from the start, Kohinoor Charm was ridden out by P Ajeeth Kumar inside the last 300 metres. The two fought every stride of the final furlong and Kohinoor Charm managed to forge ahead by a neck in the shadow of the winning post. Bold Reason came charging from behind to finish third in the same picture frame.
