Trainer Darius Byramji leading Nimfea (Irvan Singh Up), winner of The Chief Minister's Trophy

Darius Byramji trained Nimfea (Burden of Proof-Soviet Lake / Kunigal Stud) landed the Chief Minister’s Trophy spoils, the feature event of Friday’s races at Mysore. A winner over a similar sprint at Bangalore in her previous start, Nimfea went into the race at a liberal 9-2 quote in the betting with Go Lucky Go garnering the most support to be the favourite. Jockey Irvan Singh had replaced an indisposed P.S. Chouhan and he settled Nimfea nicely to be with the front bunch that was led by Clever Trick. Approaching the last two furlongs Nimfea was alighted to the task and the filly surged ahead readily and broke clear by over two lengths. Irish Song and Go Lucky Go were up with a challenge but could only settle for the second and third places respectively.

S.Dominic trained 3 year old chestnut gelding Super Success Noverre-Landmine / Sohna Stud won the higher division of the Mysore Race Club Trophy. The favourite New Crown was out on a start to finish bid and brought the field into the home stretch. Nearing the 300 metres board New Crown started to show distress signals and Super Success from the outside along with Glittering in the centre began to gain momentum. Super Success veered out of the straight course almost disturbing the running of Born For Success but jockey G Sai Vamshi who had come as a replacement for P.S.Chouhan got his mount under control and brought it back towards the inside. Super Success stretched clear with Glittering rallying to take the second place. Born For Success was third many lengths behind while New Crown ended up fourth. New Crown was observed to be trotting lame after the race.

Jockey Suraj Narredu rode V. Loknath schooled All In (Lucifer Sam-Alexandra / Sans Craintes Stud) splendidly to snatch the race from Cattleya in a pulsating finish in the lower division. Rare And Elusive was speedy initially and led till the top of the straight. All In and Cattleya both made their move at almost the same juncture and moved forward to claim the lead. The two began to fight it out with young Arshad Alam on Cattleya using the stick freely and the experienced Suraj using his hands and heels vigorously. All In was tending to hang out and Suraj fought hard to keep him going straight. The fight went till the wire and it was All In who managed to get the verdict in his favour by a short-head finally. Sky Jasmine rallied on to finish third in front of Bourbon Street.

The two divisions of the Mandakalli Plate were ‘no whip’ races. S.Britto trained Temujin (Burden of Proof-Clarinet / Kunigal Stud) won the higher division in a thrilling three horses finish. Temujin led the field from the word ‘go’. Our Little Dragon was in chase but didn’t look to be a threat as they headed into the last 200 metres. The favourite Flame’s Fury was further behind in third. Inside the last 100 metres the three began to bunch up with Flame’s Fury flying down towards the finish. Our Little Dragon was a clear third even to the naked eye but it was a close call for the winner. Temujin had just held on by a nose at the wire.

Neil Darashah trained Hector (Charmo-Thunderlite / Vikram Greenlands Stud) wrapped up the lower division easily. Hector and Icecream came out of the pack on entering the straight and after a brief duel jockey Arshad Alam rode out the first named to go ahead and extend the margin to three lengths at the finish. Beautiful Effect and Zermatt finished third and fourth respectively with just a neck separating them.

Dontworrymonday (Ikhtyar-Beyonce / Nanoli Stud) from Pradeep Annaiah’s yard just about managed to scrape through in the opener, the division II of the P.Shanker Memorial Plate. Jockey Arshad Alam took Dontworrymonday to the front quickly at start and led all the way. On the straight Touch of Romance and Tic Tac Toe were in hot chase but not getting close. Western Lady started to get stronger from behind and with a late dash came menacingly close but the favourite Dontworrymonday was safe home by a slender neck. Victory Girl placed third ahead of Tic Tac Toe.

Trainer Ranjeet Shinde led in Oro Plata (Sussex-Orientation / Baadal Stud) to a maiden win in the Nainital Plate, a 1200 metres sprint for Mysore based horses in the lowest class. Born For Stakes set off on a start to finish bid and the favourite Smart Mistral packed off early on the straight after giving company to the leader. As they neared the last 150 metres Oro Plata improved with big strides to take charge and drew clear. Rosie’s Dream and Belle Etoile warmed up late to take the second and third spots. Born For Stakes finished fourth.

V. Narayana Gowda trained Mystical Shadow (Gaswar-Chasing Shadow / Galloping Acres Stud) won the division I of the P. Shanker Memorial Plate by a lengthening street. Backed to the exclusion of the other runners, Mystical Shadow raced in fourth position while Fancy Number led the pack till entering the home stretch. Moving up easily Mystical Shadow surged ahead and stretched out effortlessly to win by a distance. Fancy Number stayed on in second while Above And Beyond came in late to finish third. Super Missile and Red Admiral were withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

S. Rakesh trained Kaguya Himei (Dancing Forever-Hazel Eyes / Hazara Stud) which had finished off the money only once in seven starts got its second win in the Dupont Plate. Jockey A Imran Khan nursed the filly well to settle in third behind Ireland and Flirting King. Making headway from the outside Kaguya Himei surged ahead easily to win by 2 3/4 lengths. Flirting King edged out Ireland in the shadow of the winning post.
