Trainer K S V Prasad Raju leading Aventus (Deepak Singh Up), winner of The A P Race Horse Owners Association Trophy

K.S.V. Prasad Raju trained Aventus (Ace-Starboard) proved to be a reliable miler while convincingly beating the favourite Supreme Fairy in the A P Race Horse Owners Association Trophy, the feature of Monday’s races at Hyderabad. Trainer Deshmukh’s Movie Moghual set the pace for the ‘Fairy’ and led by over five lengths as they started to approach the turn for home. With his duties coming to an end early on the straight it was Aventus who came in quickly to grab the lead. Supreme Fairy came charging in inside the last 200metres but apprentice Deepak Singh had driven out Aventus to be a length and a quarter ahead at the finish. Ivanova and Santa Monica finished third and fourth respectively.

S.S. Faisal Hassan trained Italian Cypress (Tariq-Passion) who is in pink of condition completed a hat-trick in the higher division of the K. Srinivas Reddy Memorial Cup. Sent off as the favourite at 6-4, Italian Cypress raced a handy third till mid-way up the straight while Sprint Legend and Vista called the shots in that order in front. The 4 year old gelding responded readily with big strides when the rider Akshay Kumar made his move between the two and drew clear. Sprint Legend and Vista rallied on to take the second and third places respectively. Kohinoor Punch ended up fourth.

Jockey Trevor Patel failed to pull it off on Supreme Fairy but the ‘champ’ thrilled the local crowd with a quadruple. He rode winners for trainer L.V.R. Deshmukh in both the divisions of the Totaram’s Trophy, a seven furlongs race for maiden 3 year old horses. Victorindiafoxtrot (Rebuttal-Star Gold) made a good beginning to its career, winning the higher division. Rose ‘D’ Mumtaz and Forever Bullish looked eager to get to the lead on the straight and the first named was getting to be better. Victorindiafoxtrot who had to go through traffic snarls initially was brought out from the outside and the bay colt responded to Trevor’s urgings. D’Silva’s Beau Sabreur also made a strong bid but lost out by a length and a half. Rose ‘D’ Mumtaz held on to be third from Gunner.

Found Money (Arazan-Forever Elegance) which had found one better in its two starts won the lower division with ease. Racing in about fourth till turning for home Found Money charged to take over the running and stretched out effortlessly. Limitation, Wonder Eye and City of Pearls filled the judge’s frame in that order.

Trevor was a class apart while driving home R.H. Sequeira’s filly Aggresive Approach (Tariq-Matinee / Ruia Stud) to a short-head victory in the Red Surprise Cup. Trevor waited patiently in about third while Save The Nation set out on a start to finish bid with Oathofyourdaughter in second. Inside the last 300 metres Oathofyourdaughter was a lost cause and Aggresive Approach creeped up along the fence. As the winning post neared Aggressive Approach closed the gap but the task still looked difficult with Save The Nation being relentless. Trevor was a treat to watch as he timed his final assault to a nicety to get Aggressive Approach to put her nose in front at the all-important end. Gayle Force finished third ahead of South Lake.

The fourth winner came through M. Srinivas Reddy trained Chal Dhannu Chal (Rebuttal-Czai / Hazara Stud) in the Epsom Plate, the concluding race of the day. The 3 year old filly, a winner of her previous start was taken to the front as the field headed past the mile marker and was in command as the came in for the last 400 metres on the straight. The favourite Time To Climb and Kireeti tried to get to the leader but after a couple of cracks to be reminded of her task, Chal Dhannu Chal stretched out effortlessly to leave the rest cold by over six lengths. Silver Passion came in along the rails to deny Time To Time the second place. Kireeti finished fourth.

M. Sathyanarayana trained Atlas Star (Placerville-Seriously Stunning) bounced back to winning ways with a thumping win in the lower division of the K. Srinivas Reddy Memorial Cup. Tracking Rocking Racer till turning for home Atlas Star surged ahead effortlessly and broke away to win by a street. For the record Western Express, Rosemonde and Arazil filled the board.

Nano Dame (Epicentre-Streaking Senorita) from Anupam Sharma’s yard was ridden to victory in the Gentleman’s Deal Plate by Carlos Henrique. Bracing around the front runners Nano Dame hit the front within the first furlong. On entering the home stretch Miss A Kiss came up with a good gallop to join Nano Dame and surged ahead by a slender margin but began to drift out alarmingly. Nano Dame kept a straight course along the fence even as Miss A Kiss continued to veer out and won by two lengths. Nano Class warmed up late to beat Miss A Kiss for the second place. Make Me A Star was withdrawn before the start of the race.

K.S.V. Prasad Raju trained Dublin (Admiralofthefleet-Captivating/Kunigal Stud) justified the favouritism in the Hovercraft Plate, the opener of the day. Matching strides with Sacrifice all the way from the start, Dublin gathered momentum inside the last 150 metres and stretched clear. Penumatcha’s Pride and Arabian Fountain finished third and fourth respectively.
