Acclaimed (Trevor Patel Up), winner of The Mysore Dasara Sprint Championship (Gr.3)

A mile, seven furlongs or a sprint, Acclaimed (Burden of Proof-Alnasreya / Kunigal Stud) knows exactly how to handle them. The 5 year old gelding trained by Suleiman Attaollahi won the Mysore Dasara Sprint Championship (Gr.3) authoritatively even under wet underfoot conditions. This is the second graded race Acclaimed is winning this season, having won the H H Sri Krishnaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy (Gr.3) just about five weeks ago.

Constantine decided to go for right from the start and hit the front. Acclaimed was quick to chase the local challenger from the outside. Country’s Beauty was in third followed by the rest. As they rounded the final bend Acclaimed moved swiftly to get to the front with Trevor still holding him on a tight grip. Inside the last 400 metres Shivalik Star came charging towards Acclaimed and that was when Trevor gave his guy a couple of cracks just to remind him of his task. Acclaimed quickened in a trice and left the defending champion to keep the runner-up berth. Im Different travelling at the rear came in with a late gallop from the wide outside to beat Assiduous for the third place.

Trevor’s brilliance saw Faraz Arshad’s trainee Amigos (Opportunist-Cypress Hills / Country Stud) cross the winning post a length ahead of Quarter Cask in the Mrs.Ammani Ramachandran Memorial Trophy. There was an intense thundershower before the race leaving the track on the softer side. Better Than Ever showed good speed to lead the field and Amigos settled well to track the leader. Inside the last 400 metres Amigos surged ahead to grab the lead. Quarter Cask started to challenge strongly with young Prabhakaran doing his best but the magic touch of Trevor carried Amigos to the winning post. Saturday Affair and Better Than Ever finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer Pratap M Kamath’s 4 years old filly Jamais Vu (Opportunist-Galloping Fantasy / New Approach Stud) pulled it off in the division I of the Air Force Trophy. Magic Wave called the shots till the last 500 metres with Jamais Vu in close attendance. As Magic wave started to weaken before straightening for home Jamais Vu grabbed the lead. The well backed Bourbon Street moved quickly behind Jamais Vu and the two kept the railbirds in the grand stand at the edge of their seats throughout the last furlong. Jockey Shanawaz kept riding hard and passed the winning post half a length clear with Al Dorado flying down from nowhere to snatch the second place from Jamais Vu. It was unfortunate for the favourite to have returned bleeding through its nostrils having burst blood its vessel.

V. Loknath trained She’s Stunning (Charmo-Bee Fearless / Vikram Greenlands Stud) which had impressed while finishing second to Brilliant Cut over nine furlongs in its previous outing won the Autumn Blue Plate. Caterina led till the home stretch and She’s Stunning took over from there on. The grey filly drifted out of the straight course but kept kicking on despite the drift and won from Musical Treasure. Little Brown Jug rallied on to finish third.

There was a stunner by Loknath in the K.T. Shamaiah Gowda Memorial Trophy. His 3 year old filly Khaleesi (Lord Admiral-Supromene / San Craintes Stud) turned out to be the biggest upset of the day, paying a whopping Rs.1255 for a tenner. After chasing Vito till the last 500 metres the favourite Edge Of Eternity forged ahead and was looking to wrap it off when Khaleesi came down in the centre of the track and sped past inside the last 50 metres to score her maiden win. Luc Divine finished third in front of Scorching.

M. Bobby trained Catwalk queen (Burden of Proof-Cats Affair / Kunigal Stud) pulled off an impressive win in the Yadavagiri Plate. Friends Forever came out of the pack with 300 metres left and was going for it with half a dozen horses in chase close by. Catwalk Queen in the meanwhile was pulled out to make a bid and with a strong gallop swooped on the front runners to win by a length and a half. In a cluster New Sunrise finished second ahead of Saratoga Spring, Friends Forever and Rosie’s Dream.

The last two races of the day were cancelled as the track had turned not conducive for further racing.
