Trainer T Natraj leading Ancient Title (Nirmal Jodha Up), winner of The Sardar K B Ramachandraraj Urs Memorial Trophy

Ancient Title (Ikhtyar-Estonia / Nanoli Stud) caused a flutter in the Sardar K.B. Ramachandraraj Urs Memorial Trophy, winning the mile race from pillar to post. The 5 year old bay gelding from trainer T. Natraj’s stables was making its first appearance on this track after shifting base from Bangalore. Jockey Nirmal Jodha took Ancient Title to the front at start and opened up a big lead of over eight lengths as they went past the half way stage. The favourite New World looked to be in some kind of discomfort in the rear and was slowing down. Jockey Suraj Narredu dismounted near the 800 metres and New World did not complete the course.

Ancient Title kept kicking on in the straight and won easily with Reanna chasing the winner all the way up the stretch to be the runner-up. Carisa and Demanding Format finished third and fourth respectively.

The Stewards called for an enquiry into the running of the favourite New World in the race and going by the report of the veterinary doctor that the horse was observed to be trotting lame on right hind, no further action was taken.

Satish Narredu trained Country’s Crown (Roi Maudit-Sugar Lady / Country Stud) earned its maiden victory in the Srimathi Jayadevi Memorial Trophy, an 1100 metres dash for 3 year old horses. Into the home stretch Groovy Mooves and Danburite were battling it out and Country’s Crown started to creep up from the outside. Inside the last 200 metres Groovy Mooves had surged slightly ahead of Danburite when Country’s Crown came with a strong gallop to take charge and draw clear from the outside. Amazing Connection got the better of Danburite for the third place.

There was a big upset in the higher division of the Alekona Trophy with S. Rakesh trained Chandini (Crown Jewels-Princess Chand / Noble Stud) pulling it off from the top weighted Campeon. Artic Attraction was ahead of the rest to lead them early and the fancied Seven Of Hearts joined alongside to give company. The two started to fight it out on entering the straight and both started to drift out of the straight course. Yellozone and Blue Zone began to close up but they were still on the wider outside. The inner path was left open and Campeon rushed for it with a strong challenge. Chandini, racing second last till the top of the straight improved to get to the fence and after a stirring duel with Campeon managed to get her neck ahead in the closing stages. Artic Atraction and Seven Of Hearts finished third and fourth respectively.

Aravind Ganapathy trained Viktor Carnival Dancer-Classic Study / Dashmesh Stud) scored an encore in the lower division. Jockey Sandesh was at his brilliant best on riding Viktor to a splendid win after a keen tussle with Manta Ray throughout the last furlong. Hackett was the first to show up on the straight. Sivanta was close behind and Manta Ray was gaining ground from the outside. Viktor was looking for room between horses even as Wrekin was trying to sneak in along the fence. Viktor found the gap and rushed through it while Wrekin was blocked of a clear run along the rails and fell back. Manta Ray also galloped strongly from the outside and joined Viktor in the fight. Trevor on Manta Ray and Sandesh on Viktor were both all out in their effort and it was Viktor who pulled it off by a short head at the wire. Hackett finished third ahead of Wrekin and survived an objection.

B Prithviraj schooled Rare And Bold (Mull Of Kintyre-Corfu / Jind Stud) won the Monsoon Plate, a five and a half furlongs dash for maiden 3 year old horses. The bay colt was installed as the favourite at 2-1 among the reduced field of eleven with Sunbow being the non-starter. Mariko set off in front and Rare And Bold was quick to race on its outside. Approaching the distance post jockey V.R. Jagadeesh rode out Rare And Bold to take it to the front and won easily with Churchill and Zaalim striving hard in second and third respectively.

Manjri bred Oceana (Glory Of Dancer-Untold Story) earned her maiden win in fine fashion in the lower division. Zareer Darashah’s trainee settled well in third with Queens Cruise and Magic Wave racing one and two in front. On entering the straight there was a wide opening between the two horses in front and jockey Keanen G Steyn started to work his way on Oceana into the gap. The filly took charge quickly even before passing the 300 metres board and stretched out nicely to be spotted a winner well before the winning post. Felix Legion rallied on late to beat Zoe for the second spot while Al Dahma who had shown a glimmer of hole on the straight ended up fourth. Gascony was withdrawn before the start.

G.T. Surender trained Rosie’s Dream (Itaquere Power-La Villa Rose / Rolli Stud) came with a good burst of speed inside the last 100 metres to win the Valaroso Plate, the opener of the day. Peppr was on a start to finish bid with Jump In The Red in hot pursuit as they came into the final furlong. Rosie’s Dream came tearing down the stretch to wrap it up. Jump In The Red finished second ahead of Peppr.

C.D.Monnappa’s Color Proof (Burden Of Proof-Colour Me Red / Kunigal Stud) won the concluding race of the day, the higher division of the Papanashini Plate. Kallistrate had grabbed the lead from Premier Ace on entering the straight and was looking good when Color Proof picked up speed and came with a rattle to take charge and go away by a big margin of eight lengths. Premier Ace came back with renewed effort to beat Kallistrate for the second place. Born For Beauty, Cool Dude and Ordered Steps were non-starters in the race.
