It was a cake-walk for Suleiman Attaollahi trained Arrogant Approach (Carnival Dancer-Passion To perform / Hargobind Stud) in the Governor’s Cup at Mysore. There were hardly any takers for the prestigious event with only four horses accepting to run the 2000 metres trip. Arrogant Approach, the winner of the Maharaja’s Cup here stood out from the other three Mysore based horses and the gelding had to just complete the formality.

Suraj Narredu held Arrogant Approach in second while Obelinna Princess set off to cut the wind. Miss International raced third while Ruthba who was fractious in the gates trailed the pack. Into the last two furlongs Arrogant Approach surged past Obelinna Princess with utmost ease.

Murcilago (Mathematician-Prefix / Sans Craintes Stud) from trainer C.D. Monnappa’s stables who had finished second to Reanna in the previous start made good use of the additional furlong to lift the Smt.Maliniraje Prasad Memorial Trophy. Neil Darashah’s Renee, a winner in record time last time was the overwhelming favourite among the eight runners for the mile trip. The initial front running was done by Spinning Chakram, followed by Castle King, Absolute Brave, Renee and the rest. As they passed the 400 metres board the complexion of the race changed quickly with Renee going clear. Murcilago was asked to challenge by jockey Vishwanath and the 4 year old responded readily to raise a game gallop and sped past Renee inside the last furlong. Markus Sittikus and Oceanic Storm finished third and fourth respectively.

Jockey A. Sandesh gave a confident ride on Aravind Ganapathy trained Native Force (Razeen-Amorina / Usha Stud) to win the Original Vel B. Ashok Kumar Memorial Trophy. Native Force was well with the front bunch as they turned for home and Sandesh decided to take him to the front on straightening up. Romeo was in futile chase in second even as Native Force kicked clear by over three lengths and managed to hold on to the second place from Czar Rule.

Trainer Mahmood Khan saddled a profitable double, winning both the divisions of the Sri. V.B. Ramachandran Memorial Trophy. Alvarez (Burden Of proof-Miss HIghjinks / Kunigal Stud) who had scored a maiden win exactly ten days ago, carried that form to win the higher division. Racing a handy fourth behind Hot Star, Satvik and Reckless till rounding for home, Alvarez slipped in from the inside and shot ahead to be in the lead before passing the 400 metres board. Jockey V. R. Jagadeesh kept riding out the Alvarez and the youngster went nicely to the expectation of the popular support. One To Note finished second in front of Sairani and Reckless.

A big coup was successfully pulled off by the connections in the lower division. Calico Jack (Admiralofthefleet-Ciboney / Capricon Stud) was backed heavily from longer odds and the gelding was sent off as the favourite for the seven furlongs race. Into the final 400 metres Ole was a clear leader and was looking good. Calico Jack was almost six lengths behind in third with 300 metres left from home. The 3 year old picked up rapid speed and in a jiffy sped past Ole to wrap it off. Croziet and Sharpshooter ended up third and fourth respectively.

Jockey Trevor who has become the darling of the crowd rode a hat-trick, winning the first three races of the day. He rode G. Sandhu trained Joey (Sussex-Astigmatic / Badal Stus) to a maiden win in the lower division of the Shanthinikethan Plate. On top of the straight Joey was along the inside even as the leader A Move To Remember was being challenged by Reformer and Tic Tac Toe. Joey who had found one better in its last two starts at Bangalore responded well to Trevor’s riding and swooped down from the inside to take charge and extended easily. Reformer rallied on to be second in front of Tic Tac Toe. Touch Of Romance moved from around the field to finish fourth.

Trainer Sandhu sent out another maiden winner from his stable in the higher division. Shaft (Equitable-Image Concious / Manjri Stud) responded nicely to Trevors urgings to win the sprint. Flying Bullet was on a start to finish bid and Shaft in about sixth till the last 500 metres weaved through the runners in front and came to challenge the leader from the outside. Trevor gave Shaft a couple of cracks and that was enough for the 4 year old to accelerate and storm ahead. Hostess managed to get the better of Flying Bullet on the last stride for the second place.

Zareer Darashah trained Kir Royale (Curule-Royal Assault / Lumbini Stud) scored an encore in the Delhi Plate. Racing in about sixth or seventh till the final bend, Kir Royale took the closest path and was quickly behind the Refreshed and Flirting King who were fighting it out in front. Trevor looked to be in a dilemma whether to make his move between Refreshed and the rails or from the outside. He finally decided to come from the outside and once he got alongside the leader, Kir Royale spurted nicely to get to the winning post first half a length in front. Flirting King stayed on to be third. Delta Delight was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

P.C. Tejaswi trained Jersey Bride (Burden Of Proof-Shenandoah / Kunigal Stud) picked up its second successive win from as many starts after shifting base to Mysore. Improving nicely from about fourth position as they straightened up Jersey bride charged ahead to get to the front and opened a good lead of over two lengths which came in handy in the closing stages. Country’s Nobility was finishing the fastest from the outside but Jersey Bride held on by a neck at the wire. Sufficient Proof rallied on well to finish third ahead of Mr. Glorious.
