KOHINOOR GRACE WINS THE FEATURE EVENT

K.R.K. Raju trained Kohinoor Grace (Eljohar-Lady Counsel ) made it a start to finish affair in the Smt. Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup, that featured the small card of six races on Friday at Hyderabad.  The 4 year old filly had won her last start exactly a month ago at longer odds and she was once again sent off as a 10-1 shot with King Of Pop also a last outing winner getting the popular support. Kohinoor Grace was speedy at start and rushed to lead the field. King Of Pop settled well to track the leader. On the final straight Kohinoor Grace kicked on gamely to maintain the lead from King Of Pop and won by a clear two lengths. Princess Hina and True Friend finished third and fourth respectively.

Star Born Stud bred Accelerator (Phoenix Tower-Going For Gold) won the Almanac Cup with a measure of comfort. The filly was the slowest at start and moved up gradually to run fifth while the top two market fancies Double Charter and Picture Perfect disputed the lead. As they turned for home Accelerator was pulled out to make a bid. The early leaders packed off early and True Pearl surged ahead with Accelerator getting stronger from the outside. With a good turn of foot Accelerator sped past True Pearl to score her maiden win. Double Charter finished third ahead of Picture Perfect. Byron Bay was a non-starter in the race.

Trainer L.D’Silva was the only professional to score a brace on the day. He started off the day with Graceland (Epicentre-Samurai Sword) winning the Kitty Bank Cup in a close finish. Spirited Set off in front from the start over the nine furlongs trip and came in with a lead of about three lengths into the home stretch. Graceland began to get closer and the favourite Golden Flash also joined from the outside. The two went past Spirited with 200 metres left and fought out every inch of ground. The rider of Golden Flash was riding hard using the whip freely and apprentice C. S. Vikrant on Graceland was pushing hard with his hands and heels. Graceland managed to edge out Golden Flash by a short-head at the wire. Spirited was third 2 ¾ lengths away.

D’Silva’s Laurel Canyon (Noverre-Shao/Sohna Stud) was the solitary favourite to win on the day. With a flying finish Laurel Canyon snatched the race from Military Belle on the last stride. Military Belle had forged ahead of Panachecorn inside the last 200 metres and was looking good when Kohinoor Punch and Laurel Canyon came tearing down from the outside. The three went past the winning post in a close finish and Laurel Canyon had got it by a head from Military Belle. Kohinoor Punch was third another head adrift.

Faiyaz Shaikh trained Bold Reason (Mr.Mellon-Reminiscent) won the Sweet Memories Plate. The favourite Chandraja and Brother Bruce led the pack and Bold Reason was racing in about fifth till straightening for home. Brother Bruce drifted wide inside the last 400 metres and Bold Reason covered ground to take it up with 250 metres left from the finish. Brother Bruce started to gather momentum towards the finish but Brother Bruce was safe home by two lengths. Royal Glow and Chandraja finished third and fourth respectively.

Wonder Eye (Varenar-Honey Run) scored a maiden win in the Everest Plate. The favourite Charming Beauty was up in front on top of the straight but started to drift out alarmingly. Charming Beauty was travelling on the edge of the track towards the stand side and Wonder Eye galloped strongly to get past Sacrifice. Wonder Eye was a length and a half in front of Charming Beauty at the finish.
