Trainer S S Attaollahi leading Pentagram (A Sandesh Up), winner of The Gool & Soli Poonawalla Memorial Trophy Div-I

Suleiman Attaollahi trained Pentagram (Jeremy-Aplysia/ Broadacres Stud) scored an effortless victory in the Gool & Soli Poonawalla Memorial Trophy Div.I, that featured the long card of Saturday’s races at Mysore. The 4 year old gelding had found one better in its two starts here this season and garnered maximum support among the dozen runners for the 1200 metres sprint, sent off at ‘Evens’. The race started off in a fast clip and Pentagram was held back in fourth while Majestic Queen set the ball rolling followed by New Emperor and Clever Trick. On entering the home stretch Pentagram moved between horses and was in the lead before approaching the 300 metres board. The favourite left the rest of them cold and jockey A. Sandesh had the luxury of looking back and easing up before passing the winning post. Emperor Cruise, Virat and New Emperor filled the judge’s frame in that order.

Jockey A.Sandesh had a good day, booting home three winners and finishing runner-up in three more from his six engagements for the day. Striking View and Forest Tern both trained by Aravind Ganapathy were his other two wins. Striking View (Arazan-Star Angel / Poonawalla Stud) scored an encore in the Gayatri Devi Memorial Trophy. Striking View went on a start to finish bid over the 2000 metres trip and established a lead of over four lengths early. Obelinna Princess was in chase followed by Amazing Desire, Let The Lion Roar, Naval Glory and Chandini, all in a single file. Passing the half way stage Obelinna Princess made a quick move to take it up. The ‘Princess’ was still in front into the last 200 metres and Striking View was being ridden out in second even as Let The Lion Roar and Naval Glory began to catch up from the outside. The four of them were spread out across the track and Striking View responded with a fast turn of foot to Sandesh’s urgings and skipped away to pull it off in an amazing fashion. Obelinna Princess stayed on in second from Naval Glory and Let The Lion Roar.

Forest Tern (Burden Of Proof-Ching Ma / Kunigal Stud) won the higher division of the Bottolonda Trophy. Chasing Better Than Ever all the way from the start, Forest Tern rallied strongly from the outside and sped past inside the last 100 metres. Arziki finished third ahead of Starhunt. Asian Star was a non-starter in the race.

Suleiman had earlier saddled Amazing Charm (Burden Of Proof-Efrhina / Kunigal Stud) to a facile win in the Forester’s Trophy. The filly who had won her last start at Bangalore in the month of August was sent off as an ‘on-money’ favourite. Going into the lead straightaway as the gates opened for the mile race, Amazing Charm made every post a winning one unchallenged. Kaguya Himei fought on with Sharp Witted on the straight for the runner-up berth and finally lost it. Passing Falcrum was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

B. Prithviraj trained Good Prospect (Ikhtyar-Obelinna / Jind Stud) scored its maiden victory in the D.H. Dasappa Memorial Trophy. The 3 year old gelding who had run in the Kingfisher Bangalore Derby last was the ‘Even’ money favourite in the seven furlongs race for 3 year old maiden horses. Jockey A Imran Khan settled Good Prospect nicely in third behind Sunbow and Ignition and with 400 metres left, let him go. Good Prospect shot ahead but began to hang out badly. The rider tried his best to arrest the drift but despite that Good Prospect stretched out to lengthen the margin to be five lengths in front on King Of Kings at the finish. Momotoro nosed out Swiss Eagle for the third place.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Flirting King (Alnasr Alwasheek-HAbibi / Greenfield Stud) who was running game races in the last three months came good in the Vasoo Group Trophy. The 8 year old showed plenty of speed to get to the lead at start and held forte all the way till the end. Inside the last 200 metres Flirting King was full of running and started to stretch out nicely in front. Yamas finished second ahead of New Sunrise. Malkia ended up fourth after chasing Flirting King till the top of the straight. Ambitiouswarrior was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

G. Nithyanand trained Candice (Frost Giant-Lady Groush / Kunigal Stud) who was a maiden from a dozen starts won the lower division of the Bottolanda Trophy, the opener of the day. Legal Legacy set out on a start to finish bid with Magic Wave in close attendance. Inside the last 300 metres Magic Wave started to fall back and Candice was improving steadily from the outside. With a furlong left Candice took charge and went clear. Goodwill Warrior finished on to be the runner-up while Always United fought on from the inside to beat Legal Legacy for the third place.

Above And Beyond (Oath-Bien Sur / Equus Stud) from the stables of K. Thomas who had scored a maiden win and then finished third, bounced back to win the R.M.Puttanna Memorial Trophy with a start to finish effort. Fancy Number came in to join from the outside passing the 800 metres marker but Above And Beyond refused to surrender and kept the lead. Inside the last furlong Fancy Number was ridden hard but Above And Beyond kept kicking on with jockey G. Sai Vamshi not giving up. Mystic Lavenders began to improve in the last 100 metres but found the winner hard to catch and ended up second.

A big coup by the connections of Arrete (Multidimentional-Star Luminary / Usha Stud) was successfully pulled off in the lower division of the Gool & Soli Poonawalla Memorial Trophy. A lot of money came on the 4 year old gelding close to race time with the price plummeting. A winner over a similar sprint five weeks ago, arrete set off in the lead right from the word ‘go’ followed closely by Mandarin. Inside the final furlong Arrete kept kicking on and successfully held off Mandarin by a length and three quarters. Amazing Redd was a non-starter in the race.

The biggest upset of the day was in the concluding race, the Setia Teknologi Trophy. Zareer Darashah trained Hallelujah (Dubawi-Saaida / Nanoli Stud) pulled off a stunning win to pay a mighty dividend of Rs.798/- on a tenner for win. The last time Hallelujah ran, she had finished second last almost 14 lengths behind the winner over a similar trip. Azure Fire set out on a start to finish bid and was looking good approaching the last 200 metres. Hallelujah weaved through the field and with a spirited gallop sped past Azure Fire inside the last 100 metres. Tulip finished third ahead of Winged King.
