Parade Queen (Deepak Singh Up), winner of The Police Cup

Donald Netto’s speedy filly Parade Queen (Captain Rio-Romancing) displayed her sprinting prowess once again in the Police Cup, an 1100 metres dash for horses in the highest category, the feature of Sunday’s races at Hyderabad. Numinous shot to the lead from draw one and Parade Queen settled nicely to track the leader. Parade Queen moved alongside inside the last 400 metres and with a good burst of speed took charge before approaching the distance marker. Parade Queen was clear by a length and a half at the finish and the finish for the minor placings was interesting with seven horses in a cluster. Queen Of The Hills snatched the second place ahead of Beau Ideal and Modern Sniper.

Ananta Vatsalya trained Tinsel Town (Roi Maudit-Flaming Ruby) scored a stunning upset in the Faridon S Chenoy  Memorial Cup. Green Striker set off on a start to finish bid with Tinsel Town in chase close behind. Inside the last 200 metres half a dozen horses spread out almost in a line and the race looked still open. Tinsel Town galloped the best among them under relentless pushing by apprentice G Naresh and forged ahead to be the winner by three parts of a length. Rubyonrails, Symbol Of Glory and Italian Cypress filled the judge’s frame in that order.

City Of Dreams (Mull Of Kintyre-Serious Trouble / Hazara Stud) scored an encore in the lower division of the Blue Ice Plate. The 5 year old gelding from trainer M. Sathyanarayana’s stables came rushing from an outward draw to join Kintyre Princess who had got to the lead from the inside. The two matched strides and opened a lead of over three lengths over the rest as they came into the straight. City Of Dreams surged ahead with 100 metres left and justified the short price. Kintyre Princess stayed on in second from a fast finishing Staying The Best.

Trainer Anupam Sharma sent out winners in both the divisions of the Perceived Value Cup. Jockey K Mukesh Kumar had it easy on Sketch Of Beauty (Black Cash-Wisdom Queen) in the higher division. Sketch Of Beauty was still a maiden from a dozen starts but was fancied strongly to be the favourite in the race after her last three starts where the filly finished third in all of them. Shatakshi was in the lead as is her style of running and Aware was in close attendance. On entering the straight Sketch Of Beauty gradually creeped up from the outside and surged past with a furlong left. The winner drew clear to be five lengths ahead while Aware rallied on to be second in front of Shatakshi.

Bharat King (Hymn-Broken Silence) did well to win the lower division, the first race of the afternoon. The 3 year old gelding looked keen in the early part but jockey P Ajeet Kumar held him in check to track the leader Angel Bell. Another fancied runner Love For The Game was a close third along the inner rails. On the straight Angel Bell was fighting hard to retain the advantage even as Bharat King moved alongside. The two matched strides for a short while and it was Bharat King who eventually travelled the better to wrap it off. Bold Reason finished third with Yet Another taking the fourth spot.

Sk Waseem Ahmed trained Mount Titlis (Arabian Gulf-Zealous Cat) winless from 29 starts finally made the grade in the division I of the Elite Zone Plate. There was a rush as the gates opened for the 1100 metres scurry and Mount Titlis was speedy to take it up. As they came into the final furlong Mount Titlis still enjoyed a good lead of over four lengths and kicked on till the winning post. Jem Star was in second all the way and ended up that way. Onk Onk Onk and Sefarina finished third and fourth respectively.

Zoheb Shaikh trained Egyptian Wind (Equitable-Alam Jehan) was ridden to a start to finish victory by A.M. Tograllu in the lower division. The 4 year old filly who has been sparingly raced, having run only three times took a good start from draw one to maintain a slender lead early on. Improving gradually Egyptian Wind stepped up the lead and led the pack by a good margin entering the straight and kicked on gamely. Tricky Star was in chase till the last 100 metres and lost out the position to Penumatcha’s Pride and Lavender both of whom came charging towards the closing stages.
