Trainer Vishal Yadav leading Campeon (Ajit Kumar Up), winner of The Chamundi Hills Trophy

Vishal Yadav trained Campeon (Black Cash-Eka / Equus Stud) lifted the Chamundi Hills Trophy with an astonishing gallop in the dying moments. The gelding took its season tally to three wins and two seconds from five starts and will be a strong contender for the horse of the season award. Campeon raced last among the dozen runners till showing up on the home straight. Evalina grabbed the lead inside the last 400 metres and Reanna was struggling hard in second. The favourite Daylite was further behind in third and looked to have a tough task on hand. Campeon creeped up through the shortest way to get to striking position and was brought out by Ajit Kumar to make the final assault after passing the 200 metres board. The bay gelding raised a terrific gallop even as Evalina was looking good and flashed past to win it by half a length. Daylite warmed up rather late to finish third another half a length away with Shrewd Master ending up fourth.

Trainer Aravind Ganapathy saddled a back to back double and raised hopes of becoming the champion trainer for the first time. Sulaiman Attaollahi now heads the tally by one point and has no runners on the concluding day. Aravind has just one horse to saddle on Thursday and if he wins it, will take home the award with a better score on second placed horses.

King Of Kings (Ace-Meohmy / Greenfield Stud) was the victor for Aravind in the higher division of the Mount Everest Plate. King Of Kings set off in the lead right from the start and was joined by Happy Thoughts approaching the 500 metres. On the straight the two began to fight it out with Skyfullofstars rallying along the fence another two lengths behind. King Of Kings was starting to drift out of the straight course and Happy Thoughts came as a boon from the outside. The drift was arrested by the presence of Happy Thoughts and jockey Sandesh began to ride hard. Happy Thoughts was out of the fight inside the last 150 metres and Skyfullofstars was catching fast from the inside. The two went past the winning post in the same picture frame and the ‘King’ had scrapped through by a short neck at the wire. Happy Thoughts finished third another length and three quarters behind.

Majestic Style (Charmo-Fair Fantasy / Vikram Greenlands Stud) ran true to its name to win the division I of the Paddock Plate. After getting blocked of a clear run as they jumped out, Majestic Style was held back to run with the pack in the rear. On entering the straight Appy’s Glamour had taken was quick to take charge and Majestic Style was still to be sighted. Sandesh pulled out the favourite to stay out of traffic problems and once shown the day light, Majestic Style burst into a scintillating gallop. With the blink of an eyelid Majestic covered the big leeway and flashed past to snatch the race from Appy’s Glamour. Happy Victory and Hot Star finished third and fourth respectively.

The consistent Blazing Touch (Sussex-Blazing Rhythm / Badal Stud) from F. Sirajuddin’s stables scored a convincing victory in the Srirangapattana Plate. Last outing winner Calico Jack went to the front early and led till into the straight. Blazing Touch moved quickly to be on the haunches of Calico Jack before turning for home and surged ahead with 300 metres left. While Blazing Touch extended the margin of victory Charming Night got the better of Calico Jack for the runner-up berth.

G.Srinivas Babu trained Ace Force (Ace-Caractere / Poona Stud) had found one better in the last three starts on this track. The 6 year old finally came good to win the Nyveli Plate, the concluding race of the day. Racing a handy third all the way, Ace Force made headway to take it up inside the last 400 metres and won easily from Tulip. Masteroftherolls finished third while the well backed Kazuri could only manage a fourth position.

Imtiaz Khan trained Ocean Park (Lord Admiral-Berhala / Sans Craintes Stud) was the biggest upset of the day in the Theerthahalli Plate. The 10-1 shot set out on a pillar to post assignment and staved off the late challenge of the race favourite Czar Rule by a neck. The rider of Czar Rule lodged an objection against the winner for interference near the bend and again on the straight was that was thrown out by the stewards. There was no strength in the objection and could be well termed as ‘frivolous’. Star Mountain and Indian legend finished third and fourth respectively. Ice Kingdom was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

The other upset of the day was Neil Darashah trained J Gatsby (Lord Admiral-Youre So Beautiful / Sans Craintes Stud). The 3 year old who had not made it to the board in its four starts came good to score a maiden win in the lower division of the Paddock Plate. Teri Adah called the shots from the start and was in the lead till into the final furlong. Haptic Star was in chase and J Gatsby was rallying close to the inner rails. The favourite Edge Of Eternity was wide while turning for home and lost all her chances there. J Gatsby responded well to Arshad Alam’s urgings and sped past Teri Adah to win by three lengths. Haptic Star got the better of Teri Adah for the second place. Brown Panther was withdrawn on veterinary grounds near the starting gates.

S.M.Johnson trained Napolean Dynamite (Storm Trooper-Pamela Bird / Chhatari Stud) produced a brilliant gallop inside the last 100 metres to wrap up the Mulki Plate, the opener of the day. Ophira moved well to take up the running very early in the race and brought the pack into the straight. Speed Queen close to the rails and Queen’s Cruise from the outside were in pursuit with Jump In The Red also making a bid from the wide outside. Napolean Dynamite began to manoeuvre its way through horses and when guided from the outside of the front runners by jockey S.R. Santosh Kumar, the gelding produced a sizzling gallop to down Ophira in the shadow of the winning post. Queen’s Cruise was third and Speed Queen fourth.

Blazing Faith (New Famous-Global Gal / Yeravada Stud) from stables of K. Thomas won the lower division. The youngster which had not finished on board in all its seven starts was fancied to the hilt over the sprint, ending up as the favourite. With another fancied runner Vicious Circle withdrawn on veterinary grounds near the gates the field was reduced to eleven. Blazing Faith was at the rear in third last till turning for home. Finding a welcome opening along the fence Blazing Faith went for it and improving quickly shot ahead inside the last 150 metres even as Silken Water made a strong bid in the centre of the track. Amazing Khodal ended up third ahead of Run To Win.
