SHIVALIK STORM WINS AC ARDESHIR TROPHY (Gr.3)

By Mahendra Mallya | 29 Nov 2015 | MUMBAI

Mr Kishore M.Dingra leading Shivalik Storm (A Sandesh Up), winner of The A C Ardeshir Trophy (Gr.3)

A moderate seven-race-card for the fourth consecutive meeting had no alarms and form horses fared well right through the day.

Siobhan (Burden of Proof – Knockenduff, Nanoli Stud) Set the trend with a very easy and impressive victory, galloping at leisure to register a facile gate-to-post victory. Jockey Trevor guided the Altamash Ahmed trained filly to the front soon on start and Siobhan although running in check, worked up a delightful rhythm to stay comfortably ahead all through.

She got stronger after turning for home and sped away to steer well clear of the rest. Negara was ridden hard to take the runner up slot over five-lengths behind the winner. Night Fury improved to beat Blaze the Track for the third spot.

The Unicorn (Verglas – Fourpenny Lane, Sohna Stud) was another on-money favourite to oblige start-to-finish over the mile and quarter trip. Helping Hand once again goofed up his start and had to cover about ten lengths, which he did right through the back stretch. The Unicorn led them into the straight, but had Helping Hand breathing down his neck. However, The Unicorn had a lot more left in the tank and jockey NS Parmar got her going approaching the distance post. The Unicorn, trained by Pesi Shroff, drew away in the final furlong to romp home in style.

Palace Girl (Tejano – Sarabande, Kunigal Stud) finally found her touch in Mumbai and showed tremendous spirit in her final finish to pip Invincible on the post. Invincible had led the field all the way into the straight and had a handy lead too speeding past the distance post. Scarlet of Hope, Plan B, Palace Girl, IN The Limelight and Stormy Princess were all fighting hard a couple of lengths behind. Palace Girl started to chase down Invincible past the 200 and although she shifted out, she raised a good gallop to pounce on the leader and peg him back in the nick of time. Jockey Kishore Kadam’s never=say-die attitude saved the day for Rehenullah Khan’s Palace Girl.

The feature event of the day, The AC Ardheshir Trophy was expected to provide a pulsating finish with Your Royal Majesty, Zachary and Shivalik Storm enjoying their respective strength of supporters. Zachary disappointed and looked out of sorts in the race, finishing faraway last.

Your Royal Majesty eased into the lead with Shivalik Storm (Dancing Forever – Badraan, Hazara Stud) close on his heels. This duo outraced the both Zachary and Remember Me, confining the race to themselves.

Your Royal Majesty held the upper hand until Shivalik Storm came to challenge midway in the straight. The final furlong saw a keen fight between the pair, with Trevor and Sandesh engaged in a fierce battle. Shivalik Strom produce that extra bit to down the favourite a couple of strides before the winning post and carve out a narrow victory.

Myrtlewood (Multidimensional – Adamile, Usha Stud) returned to winning ways and added to her debut win with a measure of comfort.  She dished out a flawless performance and looked a class act in her facile win.

Bon Vivant got past Iridescence soon on start and brought the field into the straight. Fast lady was right with the leaders with Myrtlewood travelling comfortably in fourth at the turn. Bob Vivant could not hold on to his lead as Fast Lady started to apply pressure. Iridescence was looking for the split when Myrtlewood swooped on them on, still on a tight rein. She sailed ahead with jockey PS Chouhan  only niggling her slightly and Myrtlewood soon accelerated well, never all out, to draw away from the rest and compile a fine victory. Iridescence found one better and ended second, doing well to beat the rest. Itscaro, who had raced in the rear until the turn, improved positions to end in the money.

Faisal Abbas trained Holy Smoke (Phoenix Tower – Little Treasure, Manjri Stud) came good to earn his maiden win on third start in the hands of Colm O’Donnaghue. Sitting well up in front, Holy Smoke shot into the lead entering the straight and produced a strong gallop all through the long Mumbai straight. Pearl Secret did pose a challenge and was stuck by Holy Smoke for a few strides, but Colm was persistent in his handling and assisted Holy Smoke in staying focused and held on to win the Style Cracker Million. The Champ was the one to finish on fastest. He warmed up far too late, but is clearly one to reckon with particularly in his next outing. He managed to cover ground briskly to pip Pearl Secret for the runner-up slot. Shivalik Heroine looked a little raw and rusty, but is most likely to improve after this run under her belt.

Gestapo (Mastercraftsman – Dajolie, Nanoli Stud) literally had a walk-in-the-park victory as he marched on to score a prolific 9 1/2 L victory on debut over a mile. That sure is an ideal start if the Guineas is the target.

Gestapo settled in fourth as stable mate Baker Street made the running galloping at a decent pace. Rain Dance chased the leader with Commitment close behind. Gestapo cruised into the lead early in the straight and then without pressing on it, Suraj Narredu had him going at a good clip. Gestapo ambled away distancing himself from the rest and kept increasing the margin with alarming ease to win by a stunning margin with regard to the complete lack of toil. Rain Dance did well to beat the rest while Baker Street too will come out with some pluses.

For the professionals, Pesi Shroff was the star of the day scoring a fine treble.
