The silks of Dhunjibhoys garnered a Guineas double with their ward King Charles lifting the Golconda 2000 Guineas – Gr.2 at Malakpet, Hyderabad on Monday. Intelligence had won the 1000 Guineas a fortnight ago and the local challenger King Charles earned the owners a Classic double.

Bangalore raider Sea Lord was supported well to be the favourite among the seven starters while King Charles although had won five of its seven starts was available at nourishing odds of 8-1. Jockey Christopher Alford was down from Kolkata to partner the son of Kingada Ka and he did full justice by giving him a peach of a ride.

Kolors set the pace and King Charles raced close behind in second. Sea Lord was along the fence in third followed by Madiba, Super Success, Victorindiafoxtrot and Airco. The order was more or less the same till turning for home. Kolors held on till passing the distance marker and King Charles who was in hot pursuit took it up from thereon. As Alford drove King Charles inside the last 150 metres Sea Lord began to diminish the lead. The two fought hard and King Charles managed to stay in front by a neck at the finish. Kolors was third another length away.

Trainer L.V.R.Deshmukh and jockey P.S.Chouhan teamed up to lift both the divisions of the Hyderabad Cup. Odysseus (Phoenix Tower-Aquila Oculus / Manjri Stud) won the higher division on the last stride. Flower Roll Up was on a start to finish bid and was looking good with a hundred metres left from the finish. Odysseus came through the shortest way and with Chouhan riding hard began to close up from the outside. Inching closer with every stride in the closing stages Odysseus collared Flower Roll Up on the last stride to win by a head. Columbus finished third ahead of Oathofyourdaughter.

Morning Miracle (Abbeyside-Actuate) made it a start to finish affair in the lower division. Moving well from around the field from an outward draw, Morning Miracle was nicely in the lead early in the race. Chouhan had to pick up the stick with a furlong left when he found Double Charter challenging from the outside and with relentless effort stayed half a length ahead at the wire. Fabulous Jewel and Italian Cypress came charging down in the closing stages to end up a close third and fourth respectively.

Jockey P.Trevor who returned to India after riding a winner in Mauritius rode M Srinivas Reddy schooled Prospero (Burden Of Proof-Cherika) to an easy victory in the Own Vision Plate.  The filly who was on debut was taken to the front quickly after the start and had a good lead of over three lengths on entering the straight. She started to increase the lead effortlessly and Trevor had the luxury of easing her up well before the winning post. Charlie Brown, Star Ruby and Monte Rosa filled the judge’s frame in that order.

S.A.Shehzad Abbas trained Dancing Farha (Dancing Forever-Farha) bounced back to winning ways in effortless fashion in the higher division of the Bonzer Cup. Shooting ahead to take the running as the field was dispatched, Dancing Farha led all the way and won unchallenged. Torremolinos rallied on to finish second ahead of Barbossa and Aware.

It was a similar win by L.D’Silva’s Romantic Fire (Opportunist-Romance In Rain) in the lower division. The 4 year old filly travelled nicely from the outer most draw and was in the lead quickly getting to the rails. Green Olive from the outside and Bouquet from the inside tried to challenge but Romantic Fire quickened to increase the margin and go away. Green Olive drifted out but still finished second ahead of Bouquet.

A lot of money came on S.S.Faisal Hassan’s Pfeifer (Rebuttal-Vena Amoris) in the concluding race, the Crack Regiment Plate. The debutante was sent off as the favourite among the eleven runners and the filly won with a lot on hand. Making a swift move from the outside, Pfeifer charged ahead to take the lead early on and was never troubled at any stage. Poll Promise came in second while Sayyara and Penumatcha’s Pride finished third and fourth respectively.

R.H.Sequeira trained Ondha Ondha Ondha (Equitable-All Heart) who was winless from 13 starts finally came good to shed its maiden ranks in the opener, the higher division of the Crack Regiment Plate. The 4 year old tracked In Command closely till the top of the straight and surged ahead to take charge. Lavender was the only worthwhile challenger but she could only end up second about a length and a half behind Ondha Ondha Ondha. Awesome Show and In Command took the third and fourth places respectively.

Laxman Singh trained Time For Smile (Placerville-Diablo’s Secret/ Exhiliration Stud) won the Zurbaran Plate. The gelding was taken to the front at start by Deep Shanker and made every post a winning one. Spirited chased Time For Smile till the last 200 metres and lost the second position to Goldie. Pinky finished fourth.
