Trainer M Bobby leading Capitano (L Prashant Up), winner of The Dr.Ishwari G.K.Balakrishnan Memorial Cup Div-1

The 7 year old Capitano (Major Impact-Trace Of Magic / Manjri Stud) from the stables of m.Bobby justified the strong flow of money in the higher division of the Dr.Ishwari G.K.Balakrishnan Memorial Cup, that featured Wednesday’s races at Mysore. Jockey L.Prasanth who is familiar with the gelding having partnered in most of its runs after shifting to Mysore took Capitano to the front as the gates opened. Capitano was veering out inside the last 100 metres but still managed to stay clear of the sustained efforts of Dark William and Crown Emperor who tried to slip in along the rails.

In the lower division of the race C.Girinath trained Skyjet (Glory Of Dancer-Desert Sky / Manju Stud) earned its first win on this track after shifting base early this year from Mumbai. Skyjet also went on a start to finish bid over the 1200 metres sprint. Another well backed Zagato chased the leader right from the start but failed to catch up as Skyjet picked up pace in the final 100 metres to draw clear. Spinning Chakram was many lengths behind in third ahead of Abderus.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Reanna (Gaswar-Am Capable / Lingwood Stud) who had lost out by a whisker in a pulsating finish in her previous start made amends in the Bijapur Plate. Racing in about sixth till turning for home, Reanna waited there to get an opening. Once the gap in front widened jockey Y.S.Srinath rode out and the filly raced through to take charge and won impressively. Campeon and Ace Force were beginning to get up from the outside but Reanna skipped clear and the two had to settle for second and third places respectively.  Castle King finished fourth.

C.D.Monnappa trained Always Love (Black Cash-Zariyba /Equus Stud) was the only upset on a day otherwise dominated by horses in the money. The 5 year old, ridden by Nitin Singh won the Nagarjunasagar Plate.  There was a freak accident in the early part of the race resulting in the rider of the favourite Sky Jasmine being dislodged. Smart Mistral veered out alarmingly from draw 3 and bumped into Sky Jasmine who was positioning from the outside. The rider of Sky Jasmine received a jolt due to the collusion and was unseated. Smart Mistral continued to run erratic and broke away to establish a long lead. Smart Mistral was out of steam onn the straight and New Sunrise surged ahead to take up the running. Always Love gathered momentum from behind and inching closer forged ahead easily. Gayle’s Storm was third ahead of Scramouche.  Everlasting Memory was withdrawn after being troublesome near the gates.

Trainer P.C.Tejaswi and jockey Chetan Kalay reaped rich with three wins each. Tejaswi won the first three races of the day with two of them piloted by Kalay. Young Gallant (Tejano-Aldiora / Sans Craintes Stud) won the opener of the day, the lower division of the Common Grounds Plate. Ceasaria went to the front at start and Young Gallant settled to chase in second. Approaching the last 600 metres Young Gallant surged ahead to take it up and was never threatened thereafter. Blackwind finished second with the saddle having slipped badly. Saratoga Spring was third ahead of Ayman.

London Eye (Alnasr Alwasheek-Chitralekha / Yeravada Stud) was given a confident ride by S. Chetan Kalay to win the lower division of the Shillong Plate. Racing a handy fourth till the bend London Eye started to move up but the gap was tightened with Lake Emerald, Getafix and Lagoona rushing for the lead. Kalay waited for the opportunity and once he got an opening forged ahead to take over the running and pull it off. Getafix edged out Lagoona for the second place while Refreshed came in late to finish fourth.

Magic Wave (Hurricane State-Ferrari / Dr.Kehar Singh Stud) made every post a winning one under A.Ashok Kumar in the division I of the Common Grounds Plate. Rushing to take over the running as the gates opened Magic Wave opened a lead of over four lengths. As they came into the final furlong there was no threat emerging from behind and Magic Wave kicked on by four and a half lengths. Subhagya rallied on to take the second place from Peppr.

Chetan rode Vikram Appachu trained Icecream (Noverre-Love For Life / Sohna Stud) to victory in the division I of the Shillong Plate. Backed down to favouritism, Icream went to the front within the first furlong and led all the way from thereon. Inside the last 150 metres Icecream started to drift out even as Flirting King and Mr.Glorious started to challenge from the outside but kicked on well to win by a length and a quarter. Flirting King, Mr.Glorious and Saturday Affair finished in that order for the minor places in a close finish. Delilah and Vroom Vroom were withdrawn before the start.
