Trainer T Natraj Leading Ancient Title (V R Jagadeesh Up), Winner Of The Chamundi Million

The outcome of the inaugural edition of the Chamundi Million 2015 was not on expected lines as Ancient Title (Ikhtyar-Estonia / Nanoli Stud), owned and trained by T.Natraj scored a stunning upset. Alexandra Mills was installed as the favourite among the ten runners and Toroloco who had finished behind the filly in their last start looked to be the main threat. Ancient Title set off on a start to finish bid over the 2000 metres trip and went on a decent clip. As they headed past the half way stage Ancient Title was still in command followed by Native Force, Naval Glory, Strengthandwonder, Bold Majesty, Toroloco, Alexandra Mills, Arrogant Approach, Miss International and Murcilago tailed off last. Inside the last 200 metres Ancient Title continued to bowl along in front and was not showing any signs of tiring out. Toroloco and Alexandra Mills started to make their bid but found the local challenger hard to catch and had to settle for the second and third places respectively. Arrogant Approach who was held in third last all the way till the top of the straight rallied on to fill the judge’s frame.

Followers of money took a beating as only two fancied runners obliged in the eight races. S.Rakesh trained Kaguya Himei (Dancing Forever-Hazel Eves / Hazara Stud) was ridden to a start to finish victory by V.R.Jagadeesh in the Dr.M.N.Doreswamy Memorial Trophy. Rushing to take charge in front as the race started, Kaguya Himei set a decent pace followed by Icelander. Absolute Brave was in third running about four horses away from the rails followed by Evalina, Society Music, Demanding Format and Carisa. On the straight Society Music tried to challenge with the rider going for the stick early but she just couldn’t raise a gallop. Evalina began to get closer but Kaguya Himei kicked on to keep the lead till the winning post. Society Music finished third ahead of Absolute Brave.

Royal Prodigy and Yamas were the top two market fancies in the Kandla Plate. As the field of eleven set out for the mile trip Royal prodigy raced in around seventh and Yamas further behind. Approaching the last 200 metres Yamas made a move from around the field and Royal Prodigy through the field. Ranjeet Shinde’s ward Royal Prodigy produced a stirring gallop to grab the lead and extended well to win by a good margin while Yamas was left to fight with Rosie’s Dream for the second place. Sunspirit was a close fourth.

P.C.Tejaswi trained Sivanta (Mr.Mellon-Marquisa / Ruia Stud) pulled off an upset in the higher division of the Planters Plate. Tracking Kentucky Rose till the last 300 metres from the outside, Sivanta surged ahead to take it up the running and pulled off an upset win. Al Dorado came in late to beat Kentucky Rose for the second place. Al Attaturk was fourth. Classic King was permitted to be withdrawn before the race.

There was spirited betting on Push The Limit in the lower division of the Planters Plate but the 3 year old had to bite the dust behind Invincible Wish (Mull Of Kintyre-Nimble Feet / Amanali Stud). Chasing Delta Delight till the top of the straight Push The Limit surged ahead to take over the running. Trainer C.V.G.K.Kishore’s ward Invincible Wish improved from the outside and with a good gallop forged ahead of the favourite. Midnight Breeze finished third in front of Country’s Charm.

Kishore saddled his double through Divine Love (Oath-Royal Haven / Pratap Stud) in the division I of the Brig.C.D.Mohan Memorial Plate. Racing a handy third behind Amazing Lady and Skyjet till turning for home Divine Love forged ahead to the front and won easily. Reckless and Icecream were finishing on to take the second and third places respectively.

Vishal Yadav trained Dare The Don (Varenar-Balance De Power / Equus Stud) made every post a winning one in the lower division. Jockey Ajit Kumar took Dare The Don to the front as the gates opened and settled to lead by over three lengths. The 3 year old gelding enjoyed a good leeway on the home straight and extended it even as Country’s Nobility chased in second. Starstruck snatched the third place from Siddhani on the last stride.

M.Bobby trained Sharp Girl (Sussex-Acquitaine / Badal Stud) won the opener of the day, the Mangalagangotri Plate to complete an encore. Always close to the rails Sharp Girl took the shortest way to challenge Queen’s Cruise and Friends Forever and streaked clear. As Sharp Girl extended the lead there was a rush for the minor places with Belle Etoile taking the second spot from a late finishing Alps. Queen’s Cruise was fourth in the same frame.
