By Madhukar Bhagawan | 03 Jan 2016 | HYDERABAD

Mr.N.Adil Mirza & trainer Laxman Singh leading Meheran (Akshay Kumar Up), winner of The Sri A.S Krishna Memorial Cup

Laxman Singh trained Meheran (C P West-Killarney) was the surprise in the Sri. A.S.Krishna Memorial Cup on Sunday at Malakpet. Laxman Singh had sent out five runners in the field of six and the youngest among them all, King Charles was the strongly fancied one at on-money. The lead kept changing between Red Rambble and Whats Up till the field turned for home and Red Rambble was in third all the way. Inside the last 200 metres the race looked open with the field spread out and it was Meheran under Akshay Kumar that travelled the best to wrap it up. Red Rambble stayed on in second and the favourite King Charles finished third.

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Found Money (Arazan-Forever Elegance) made it in the G.V.Rao Memorial Cup. Found Money and Baashagar shared the favouritism among the eight runners for the mile race. Jockey P.S.Chouhan took Found Money to the front as the gates opened and Baashagar was well up in second. The two came in to the home stretch that way and started to fight out the last 200 metres. Jockey Chouhan on Found Money and Imran Khan on Baashagar were both all out but it was the former who held out by quarter of a length at the finish. Kimono rallied on to be third.

The trainer, jockey combination of Deshmukh and Chouhan had earlier in the day scored through River Chimes (Philanthropist-River Cree) in the lower division of the Nilgiris Plate. The filly on a debut in the sprint for maiden 3 year olds raced third while Rose Eternal set out on a start ti finish bid followed by Surprise Party. Picking up speed in the final furlong River Chimes forged ahead by three parts of a length in the concluding stages of the race. River Chimes was second and the well backed Surprise Party finished on in third.

Aragonda Princess (Whatsthescript-Reforest), a debutante from trainer Laxman Singh’s yard literarily trounced the opposition in the higher division. Sent off at a short price, the gelding was held on a tight rein beside Ruby’s Gift till turning for home. Once on the straight jockey Kuldeep Singh let go and Aragonda Princess left the rest faraway behind. Cash Landing, Ikigai and Ruby’s Gift filled the judge’s frame.

Trainer Laxman Singh saddled three winners on the day, having won on the on-money favourite Kiss N Chase (Top Class-Lovely Senorita) in the Running Flame Plate. Jockey Kuldeep Singh decided to take Kiss N Chase to the front as they settled down to race for the 2400 metres trip and opened a good leeway over the others led by Vijay Vidyut. There was no challenge emerging from behind as they came in to the final straight and Kiss N Chase continued to dominate till the winning post. Vijay’s Harmony finished second ahead of City Tex.

Trainer M. Sathyanarayana and jockey K.Sai Kiran combined to pull off a popular double through Wind Zoom and City Of Pearls. Wind Zoom (Tariq-Mathematica) tracked Royal Glow till the top of the straight and surged ahead easily passing the 400 metres board in the Sweet Girl Plate. Royal Glow held on to finish second from the late finishing Flower Of Timba. Bouquet ended up fourth.

City Of Pearls (Noverre-Pearl Moon) scored a maiden win in the higher division of the Step Aside Plate. Shooting ahead to get to the front as the gates opened, City Of Pearls went to the lead and made every post a winning one. Apache Gal warmed up rather late but was no threat to the winner and settled for the runner-up berth. Sir Legend finished third.

K.Satheesh trained Lavender (Hurricane Centre-R Valid Girl) got to the winning post for the first time in the lower division. Rushing towards the fence from an outward draw, Lavender was quickly in the lead. Staying in front all the way Lavender won easily from Forever Bullish. Perfection and Blaze Of Glory finished third and fourth respectively.

The race favourite Wonder Eye (Varenar-Honey Run) from trainer Shamsuddin’s yard was handled well by S Sreekant to register a fine win in the lower division of the Salarjung Cup. Racing last of six till approaching the last 600 metres, Wonder Eye improved a couple of places and was in striking position on entering the straight. After a short duel with Upon A Star inside the last furlong, Wonder Eye surged clear and spared a length at the finish. Gunner was third and Rose ‘D’ Mumtaz fourth. Amethyst and Kohinoor Flare were non-starters in the race.
