Trainer C Girinath leading Naval Glory (Anil Baandal Up), winner of The C.Dasharatharama Shetty Memorial Trophy

C.Girinath trained Naval Glory (Champs Elysees-Wooden Doll / Nanoli Stud) brought out the best in him while trouncing the opposition in the C.Dasharatharama Shetty Memorial Trophy, the main event of Wednesday’s races at Mysore. Dark William led the pack with Majestic Queen in close attendance while Naval Glory raced in about seventh position till approaching the last 400 metres. Naval Glory moved up places quickly thereafter and with a good gallop took charge inside the last 250 metres and drew clear. No Doubt rallied on to beat Dark William for the runner-up berth. Class Above was originally placed fourth but after a steward’s enquiry with regard to its running wherein he had shifted in badly causing severe interference on the straight, was disqualified and Majestic Queen promoted to the fourth place.

Storming Home (Burden Of Proof-Quiet Storm / Kunigal Stud) came home by a lengthening margin of seven lengths in the higher division of the Gonikoppa Plate. The Feroz M Khan trainee was in the thick of storm after failing to deliver as an on-money favourite in its last essay. The stewards who were not happy with that effort conducted an enquiry into the running of the race and decided to hand a year’s suspension to the rider. The punitive action of the stewards was well vindicated by the overwhelming success of Storming Home. Racing in about third or fourth while Royal Shaan and Skyjet disputed the lead, Storming Home was pulled on the outside entering the last 300 metres and literarily stormed home to be a runaway winner. Beautiful Effect and Winged King were second and third respectively in a close finish. The race favourite Skyfullofstars finished fourth.

C.D.Monnappa trained Color Proof (Burden Of Proof-Colour Me Red / Kunigal Stud) pulled off a surprise win in the lower division. Siddhani set off on a start to finish mission and led till approaching the last 300 metres. Young Gallant in pursuit of a hat-trick took over the running thereafter and was shaping like a winner when Color Proof came tearing down from behind under Anil Baandal and swept past. Young Gallant stayed on in second and Diamond Attraction third.

The Shankranti Plate produced a close finish between Ranjeet Shinde trained Flirting King and Go Man Go. Tracking the leader Mother Ewa till entering the home straight, Flirting King was ridden out to take the advantage in the centre of the track. Go Man Go began to challenge from the outside and Concentration was looking to slip in along the rails. The well backed favourite Look Me Now was toiling hard in fourth. Go Man Go fought the last 250 metres with Flirting King and lost out by a slim margin.  Concentration rallied on to take the third place and Look Me now was only fourth. Catwalk Queen and Felix Legion were withdrawn on veterinary grounds near the starting gates.

C.V.G.K.Kishore trained Vettel (Senure-Girllon / Manjri Stud) came with a good thrust inside the last 200 metres to comfortably win the Antequera Plate. Racing in about sixth till the top of the straight Vettel started to move around the field and swept past the front runners with a furlong left. As Vettel drew clear Coffee Time and Belle Ettoile fought for the minor place and finished that way in a close finish. Ophira after leading till the top of the straight finished fourth. Al Dahma was withdrawn on veterinary grounds before the race.

P.C.Tejaswi trained Oceana (Glory Of Dancer-Untold Story / Manjri Stud) won the division I of the Himalayas Plate. The 5 year old filly went on a start to finish bid and successfully kicked on till the end. Kentucky Rose and Speed Queen were in chase right from the start and followed the winner in that order to the winning post.

Thouch Of Romance (Chevalier-Taj Mahal / Ruia Stud) from trainer Bipin V Salvi’s yard which had won its maiden win in the previous outing scored an encore in the lower division. The grey 5 year old rushed to get to the front as the gates opened. Smokey Sid, Outer Space and Magic Wave raced close behind. Inside the last 300 metres Touch Of Romance quickened to move away from the rest and spared 4 ½ lengths at the finish. Outer Space finished second ahead of Magic Wave and Smokey Sid fourth.

Ranjeet Shinde's 7 year old Ensatus Elegans (Epicentre-Samurai Sword / AB Stud) who had the best credentials among the nine runners, justified the favouritism by winning the Sirsi Plate by a distance. After a good jump Ensatus Elegans settled to race third behind Smart Mistral and Golden Steps. Wasting no time jockey Arshad Alam took Ensatus Elegans to the front while turning for home and stretched clear on the straight. Blackwind improved to beat the rest while Golden Steps finished third.

For the professionals’ trainer Ranjeet Shinde, jockeys Anil Baandal and Arshad Alam scored a brace each.
