CITY OF HARMONY WINS DARLEY ARABIAN MILLION

The Darley Arabian Million (Gr.3), a richly endowed terms race for 3 year old horses had just three starters. M.Sathyanarayana trained City Of Harmony (Rebuttal-Well Rehearsed) was sent off as the short priced favourite among them and the youngster completed the formality without any fuss. Jockey P.S.Chouhan took the speedy City Of Harmony to the front at start. Vijay’s Empress was in chase till the top of the straight and then faded away. On the final straight City Of Harmony continued to kick on without requiring any assistance from the saddle and drew clear. Charlie Brown who has already had eight starts in its first season rallied on in second.

O Ms Akhila was expected to lift the R.W.I.T.C.Cup Div.I, but the chestnut filly had to bite the dust and end up as the runner-up. K.Satheesh’s ward Columbus (Gaswar-Stunning Rose / Jai Govind Stud) made every post over the seven furlongs distance a winning one. O Ms Akhila after a not so clear run along the rails started to challenge Columbus on entering the straight but was quickly under pressure and started to drift out. The rider Imran Chisty managed to get the filly back to the running and closed up the gap but Columbus held on by a clear three parts of a length at the finish. Carlton finished a close third ahead of Military Belle.

K.R.K.Raju trained Kohinoor Thunder (Epicentre-Gracious Bay) pulled it off in the lower division. The gelding rushed to take up the running as the gates opened and settled well to lead. Winds And Waves was in close attendance right from the beginning. Inside the last 200 metres Kohinoor Thunder fought on well to hold the advantage even as Winds And Waves tried hard to catch up. Ashok Chakra rallied on late to finish second.

Jockey Neeraj Rawal had an easy outing on M.Srinivas Reddy’s Madiba (Varenar-Najah / Equus Stud) in the Prince Pradeep Cup. The chestnut gelding moved quickly towards the fence to get to the front as the gates opened. Azarenka and Gentle Chief raced close behind followed by the rest. As they approached the distance marker Madiba began to stretch out easily and extend the lead to seven lengths. Azarenka stayed on in second. Strengthandbeauty ended up third and Graceland fourth.

Trevor had his solitary win of the day in the opener of the day, the division I of the Naloma Plate. Trainer S.A.Shehzad Abbas schooled Soviet Rule (Burden Of Proof-Soviet Song / Kunigal Stud) in only its second start trounced the opposition over the 100 metres scurry. After leading all the way from the start, Soviet Rule continued to rule in the last furlong. George Cross was in chase right from the start and ended up second. Queen Of Spades finished third.

Debutante Ans Ans Ans (Win Legend-Clariet) came up with a sizzling turn of foot inside the last 150 metres to win the lower division. Magnum and Vijay’s Wonder were disputing the lead but both of them went wide as they turned for home. Rahul’s Pet slipped in along the inside and looked to be clear as they headed past the 200 metres board. Ans Ans Ans came out of the pack and with a resolute gallop flew past Rahul’s Pet. Vijay’s Wonder was third and Magnum fourth.

Trainer M.Srinivas Reddy who had led in Mariba earlier, scored a back to back double o complete a treble for the day. Both the victors Gunner and Bouquet were piloted by Imran Chisty. Gunner (Sharp Attack-Golden Shadow) scored its maiden win in the Makalu Cup. Lavender went on a start to finish bid with Astra in chase. Gunner started to improve from behind and with a strong gallop from the outside flashed past Lavender. Gangadhar placed third ahead of Astra.

Bouquet (Hurricane State-Dominatrix) went on a start to finish bid in the Anmol Ratan Plate and won by a comfortable margin. True Friend, Amazing Power and Proud Image filled the judge’s frame. Pakat Pakat Pakat was a non-starter in the race.

On a day when most of those who tried start to finish tactics succeeded, S.S.Faisal Hassan trained Malakeye Ziba (Alnasr Alwasheek-Bourbon Queen), a 2-1 favourite made every post a winning one in the Adler Plate, the concluding race of the day. Time Is Luck and Golden Angel placed third and fourth respectively.
