Trainer G Srinivas Babu leading Flash Drive (Mudassar Nazar Up), winner of The Rajakumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Trophy

It was a field day for trainer G.Srinivas Babu, saddling five winners all at fancy odds. Four of them were piloted by Nitin Singh. Flash Drive (Sedgefield-Fabulous Fiorella / Jai Govind Stud) among them was the biggest upset paying a whopping Rs.1123 for a tenner on tote. Ridden by Muddasar Nazar Flash Drive slammed the Rajkumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Trophy, the feature of the day’s nine races card. The favourite Daylite carrying the bottom weight set off on a start to finish bid and held the advantage till passing the 400 metres board on the straight. As Daylite started to fade out all of a sudden Zidan grabed the lead and went for it. Flash Drive was last of the field till the top of the straight and the 6 year old was guided from the wide outside by Muddasar Nazar. Galloping resolutely Flash Drive veered in while covering ground and in the process went on to Sofast rather violently. In a flash the winner was clear of the stable mate Zidaan. Reanna and Naval Glory finished third and fourth respectively.

Feroz Khan trained Reckless (Declaration Of War-Gaslight / Lingwood Stud) returned to winning ways in an impressive fashion in the division I of the Bababudan Giri Plate. Taking a good jump from an outward draw Reckless rushed to take the lead and moved towards the inside. Maintaining a good lead all the way Reckless won unchallenged. Secret Touch improved to beat Mr.Carpe for the second place. Tempest finished fourth.

Feroz Khan took the lower division as well through a well backed Flames Of Forest (Mudeer-Ganga Divine / Track Supreme Stud). Flames Of Forest came up well to take the lead from the outside approaching the last 200 metres and was shrugging off Champion Star and As Good As Gold. Icecream who was last till mid-way up the straight devoured ground with a half-hearted effort and joined Flames Of Forest in the finish. The latter had held on by a short head. As Good As Gold finished third and Champion Star fourth. Indian was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Lucky Emerald (Arabian Gulf-Lyrical Star / Manjri Stud) was the fifth winner for trainer G.Srinivas Babu and the fourth for jockey Nitin Singh. Travelling in mid-field till entering the home stretch, Lucky Emerald started to gain ground from the outside and sped past the front runners inside the last 100 metres. Chandini came in late to pip Diamond Attraction for the second place. Siddhani filled the judge’s frame.

Triple Crown, Classic King and Lake Emerald were Srinivas Babu’s other winners. Tiger Of Mysore was the overwhelming favourite to win the opener of the day, the Ooty Plate but the bay colt raised a gallop late in the concluding stages. Triple Crown after a good jump out settled to track Sachi. Approaching the last 200 metres Triple Crown who was tending to hang in surged ahead and drew clear. Tiger Of Mysore came in late and beat Sachi on the post for the second place. Amazing Beauty was third. Lorenzo and Erebus were withdrawn near the gates.

The 4 year old bay gelding Classic King (Mull Of Kintyre-Yantai / Krishna Stud) opened its account in the Hampi Plate. Srinivas Babu’s trainee took advantage of the innermost draw and shot to the lead as the gates opened. Amazing Connection joined up from the outside and the two ran close to each other till entering the final straight. Thereafter Classic King took control in front and extended the lead. Sky Jasmine beat the rest to finish second while Here’s Abbey took the third spot. A runaway winner in the last start, Ensatus Elegans ended up a tame fourth.

Lake Emerald (Black Cash-Eau De Vie / Equus Stud) whose last win was exactly a year ago won the higher division of the Mangalore Plate. Racing a handy third behind Grand Success and Getafix till the top of the straight, Lake Emerald shot ahead inside the last 300 metres and won warding off the late bid of On Time. Ice Brown was in the fight mid-way up the straight but could only finish third. Grand Success finished fourth.

C.D.Monnappa trained Time To Time (Juniper-Loving Girl / Krishna Stud) lived up to its top billing in the Spark Of life Plate. As jockey S.John was indisposed and could not fulfil his day’s engagements, Imran Chisty replaced him on Time To Time. Queens Cruise brought the field into view but was soon passed by Friends Forever. Jump In The Red joined the fight from the outside. As the two were involved in a keen tussle Time To Time gathered momentum to collar them in the shadow of the winning post. Jump In The Red piped Friends Forever for the second place.

The lower division of the Mangalore Plateproduced a close finish between Ice Splendour and Grand Celebration. M.Bobby trained Ice Splendour (Black Cash-Eau De vie / Equus Stud) set off on a start to finish mission over the 1200 metres sprint. The well backed Grand Celebration joined from the outside near the 300 metres and the two matched strides till the winning post. Ice Splendour despite drifting out inside the last 100 metres managed to stick its neck out in front at the finish. Scaramouche was third another two lengths away.
