Jaydev Mody, owner of High Street Cruises & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. that sponsored Sunday's races, had every reason to rejoice at the turn of events at the Mahalaxmi on Sunday. The day itself panned out very well with the entertainment company executing thoroughly professional gaming options for the racing patrons. The universally popular games such as roulette table, Black Jack, Pontoon and other similar tables were overcrowded with enthusiastic punters. The amusement area too was packed and fun and frolic was order of the day. "Monopoly did extremely well though I may add that it was not unexpected. The way she won, I am of the opinion that she will add more victories and take her tally higher,” Mr Mody told me. “The entire day has been very satisfying and our patrons were having a great time. The gaming tables were busy and the staff was happy working overtime. There was tremendous interest in all the games we had and I am happy the way the day unfolded." Pressed to comment on the Casino at Goa, Mr. Mody stated that his first Casino Cruise – King's Casino, will be operational shortly and a second and much larger vessel will be added by June 2008. “Goa is a perfect vacation destination and we offer top class entertainment comparable to the best in the business," concluded Jaydev Mody. Personally, for Jaydev, the icing on the cake was the main race - The Casino Royale Gold Trophy. His horse Monopoly (Alnasr Alwasheek–Victory And Gold), ridden effectively by Appu, bolted ahead at the start and won hands down countering little resistance. Monopoly showed a lot of speed and looked the winner a long way from home. Synergetic (Rajendra) who followed her all the way, ended doing so and Star Attraction (Merchant) ran into place money. It was Monopoly all the way and a just result for the sponsor, if I may add so. Appu, who partnered the hot favourite, compiled a fine hat-trick winning with Lego Medio, Tyumen and Monopoly in the 3rd, 4th and 5th races. A second string of treble on two successive days made Appu the Star of the Weekend! The High Street Cruises Trophy saw Pepe Junior go down battling yet again. This is the third occasion where Pepe Junior found one better despite shaping up well in the straight. Pampered Princess dictated the early pace; Major Roberts, Star O' War, Enceladus, Lago Medio ran close behind, and Pepe Junior was touching the bunch. Into the straight, Pampered Princess looked like surrendering any moment and Lego Medio soon took over but had Pepe Junior (Nirmal Jodha) applying pressure. Star O' War was also catching up and race for the line was hotting up. Lago Medio, under Appu's superb guidance, thrived and held on to ward off Pepe Junior and the fast finishing Star O' War (Rajendra). Avec Plaisir was withdrawn at the gates as the official vet found her to sore by the right fore. Tyumen (Senure–Rio Anna) made an impressive debut and won convincingly justifying the favouritism. Sarjerao (Merchant) hit the front soon on start. Witness, Splendid Monarchy and Pomme De Terre were guilty of a lethargic start. Though the last named made rapid progress, he was used up before the business end and had little left in the tank to make any final impression. In the straight, Sarjerao galloped on, Tyumen looked a wee bit green but the moment he joined the leader, he gathered tremendous momentum and in split seconds had gone away. Sarjerao ended a good second and Enzo was a stubborn third. Splendid Monarchy completed the frame and Equality was a decent fifth. The first race of the day had just three runners but spotting the winner was a tricky proposition. Most gave Rage Of Angels little chance in this higher set. Earl of Warwick (Narredu) went to the front followed by Flashing Flame and Rage Of Angels preferred to sit back. Past the halfway mark, Rage of Angels improved to be in touch with Earl Of Warwick and soon on turning easily went past the leader who surrendered tamely. The challenge came from Flashing Flame who was right behind but never looked like speeding ahead. Rage of Angels (Baandal) shifted under pressure which gave just a reason for Chinoy to raise an unnecessary objection which the Stewards rightly threw out. Rage of Angels was clearly superior and scored his third victory of the season and trainer Amjad Khan has done everything right with the confirmed stayer. Bandaal scored a rare back-to-back double when he rode the well-supported Brezhnev to a well-judged and facile victory in the next race. His task became easier soon on start as they widely fancied Pebble Beach (Appu) just would not raise a gallop and stopped just as they jumped out. He just would not budge! Past the 1,000 metres, Johnny Bravo became the second casualty when he dropped out of contention. The Club's vet later clarified that Johnny Bravo had suffered some respiratory disorder and barely managed to complete the race. Brezhnev duly went on to demolish Varun and Temptation, the only pair left and posted an easy victory. But one can’t read too much in this victory and Brezhnev will have to prove himself in a tougher company to really redeem himself. Spirituall lived up to his already soaring reputation and added another feather in his cap. His latest victory was a thoroughly profession and clinical one and he didn't seem to shed a drop of sweat in thrashing the opposition to submission. Settling as he liked, Spiritual gradually improved from practically the last position at start to fourth at turn. Walking Tall, the leader till past the 400, was easy meat for Spiritual who bounded forward and had the race all sewn up long way from home. Rajendra couldn't have had an easier ride to victory as Spirituall simply sailed through showing what he is capable of and will develop into a top-class race horse. Walking Tall weakened considerably in the last part and failed to figure in the frame. Bonny Light (Appu) and Thundering Star (Satish) grabbed the place money. Gatravat (Merchant) who was expected to follow the favourite home just could not quicken despite Merchant’s coaxing and finished in the rut. Rose Bowl (Steinbeck–Roses In The Snow) was the hot favourite to win on debut. The Mangalorkar-trained bay gelding owned by the Rashids was right up in the front and left nothing to chance in the straight. Rajendra sped ahead soon on straightening up and though the debutant looked slightly edgy, Rajendra nursed him well and got the bay to produce a scintillating final burst that was fiery enough to snuff out any worthy challenge. There wasn't any and Aegina was struggling to keep pace with the much superior 3-year old. Rose Bowl had shown a lot of speed in his morning track work which he produced in the race and few were surprised by his facile victory. Rose Bowl surely is one to watch out for in his future engagements. Aegina will also do better in a maidens' race but this time found the winner just too hot to handle. Appu, once again, was the centre of attraction scoring a fine treble, just as he did on Saturday. Jockeys Rajendra and Anil Baandal also scored a double each. Faisal Abbas was the lone trainer to saddle a brace.
