MACHIAVELLIANISM SCORES ON THE LAST STRIDE

Machiavellianism (Neeraj Rawal Up), winner of The H.P Mistry Memorial Cup

The 7 years old Machiavellianism (Jazil-Empress Jessie / Hazara Stud) bounced back to winning ways in the H.P.Mistry memorial Cup, a mile race for horses in the highest category that featured Sunday’s races at Hyderabad. Trained by L.V.R.Deshmukh, the gelding just managed to collar Policy Maker on the post. Ashok Chakra led the field early followed by Policy Maker, Machiavellianism, Woman O War and the rest. On entering the straight Policy Maker was quick to gain the lead. Woman O War was hard at work but despite the rider’s best effort the filly was unable to pick up speed. Neeraj Rawal in the meanwhile started to ride out Machiavellianism and the gelding responded well to cover the leeway and get the better of Policy Maker on the last stride. Woman O War was third another length and a half away.

Trainer K.S.V.Prasad Raju sent out a grand treble, all at longer odds. Charlie Brown (Mull Of Kintyre-Ocean Crest) won the Smt.Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup in a pulsating three way finish. Racing a handy fourth till the last 300 metres Charlie Brown started to challenge Iron Cross who had got to the front from Al Sadr. The two began to fight it out and Euro Zone also joined the fight with 100 metres left. The three went past the winning post locked together and it was Charlie Brown who prevailed at the finish from Iron Cross and Euro Zone. A short-head and a nose separated the first three horses.

Golden Xanthus and Steyn Memories were the other two victors from the stable. Golden Xanthus won the Prince Khartoum Plate, the opener of the day. Jockey P.Sai Kumar who rode Charlie Brown was astride Golden Xanthus as well. Racing last till turning for home Golden Xanthus was pulled out to make a bid from the extreme outside. Blaze Of Glory was going for it from the inside and Golden Xanthus moved with telling strides to emerge the best. Charming Beauty also covered ground from the rear to finish second ahead of Blaze Of Glory.

Steyn Memories (Samhoon-All Heart) turned out to be the biggest upset of the day in the lower division of the Royal Prince Plate. Setting off on a start to finish bid over the seven furlongs trip, Steyn Memories first staved off a strong challenge of Ice Cave and then held off the late bid of Canberra. Meri Merzi finished fourth. Well Wisher was withdrawn before the start of the race.

Trainer Anupam Sharma and jockey K.Mukesh Kumar teamed up to score a double through Dynamical Warrior and Western Wind. Dynamical Warrior scored a maiden win in the higher division of the Royal Prince Plate. Improving gradually from around the sixth position as they tokk the final turn, Dynamical Warrior charged ahead from the outside on entering the straight and kicked on from Hard Fought. Kohinoor Love was third and Dorian fourth.

Western Wind (West Virginia-Miraflores) scored an impressive victory on debut in the Armagnac Plate. The 4 year old bay colt made a bid from the wide outside as the half a dozen runners in front soread out on the home stretch and with a resolute gallop overhauled them all to stride clear. Poll Promise rallied on to finish second ahead of Perfection and Pamella.

The other professional pair to score a brace was trainer M.Srinivas Reddy and jockey Imran Chisty. They scored a back to back double through Gunner and Bouquet. Gunner completed a hat-trick in a thrilling three way finish in the Artillery Cup. Inside the last furlong Vijay’s Harmony who was on a start to finish mission was fighting hard to hold on to the lead from Madiba. As the two fought a fierce battle Gunner came flying from the outside and stuck its nose in front to hit the wire first. Vijay’s Harmony held on to the second place from Madiba.

Bouquet bounced back to winning ways in the lower division of the Grace And Strength Plate. Jamie was on a start to finish mission and led till passing the distance post. Bouquet began to diminish the margin and sped past inside the last 100 metres. Roma Rouge charged in late to beat Jamie for the second place. Ondha Ondha Ondha finished fourth.

Arjun Anne trained Dandy Girl (Dandy Man-Brown Envelope) won the higher division by a lengthening margin. The filly rushed to the front as the gates opened and maintained a steady lead. On the home stretch she was in full control and began to extend the margin of victory. Cruiser, Globetrotter and Azazil filled the judge’s frame in that order.
