The Mysore Winter Season came to an end on Wednesday with ten races run on the concluding day. The championship awards were given away at the end of the day. The fight for the trainer’s championship was kept alive with Michael Eshwer saddling a treble and equalling the numbers with M.Bobby. Trainer M.Bobby however won the last two races of the day and emerged on top with 15 winners. Chetan Kalay was adjudged the leading apprentice rider with 6 winners.

The colours of Manjri Stud flew high on the final day, winning three races, all of them trained by Eshwer and ridden by Suraj Narredu. Kingoftheworld (Phoenix Tower-Sandlash / Manjri Stud) won the Mysore City Gold Cup, a terms race for 3 years old horses that featured the day’s card. After a good start Kingoftheworld settled in second when the stablemate Pacquiao went ahead. Pacquiao drifted wide and went to the sand track near the 800 metres and Kingoftheworld disputed the lead with Country’s Princess. On entering the straight Kingoftheworld forged ahead to take it up and jockey Suraj Narredu had to ride out inside the last 100 metres when Script Writer covered ground to come dangerously close. Sachi finished third and The Wolf fourth.

Constantine (Holy Roman Emperor-Coconut Squeak / Manjri Stud) won the supporting event of the day, the Andolana Trophy. Stable companion Fink garnered the maximum attention in the betting, sent off as the favourite. Constantine showed plenty of speed at start to get to the front and made every post a winning one. The fight was for the minor places and Class Is Class took the runner-up berth ahead of Oceanic Storm and Clever Trick.

Tiger Of Mysore (Phoenix Tower-Chabada / Manjri Stud) scored an impressive victory in the opener of the day, the Avalanche Star Plate. The bay colt in only its second start settled early to run behind the stablemate Scorpene in second. On showing up at the home straight. Tiger Of Mysore went ahead and stretched out authoritatively. Green Meadow finished on in second while Tremendous landed the third spot ahead of Silver Wood.

Trainer M.Bobby saddled winners in the last two races of the day. His 6 year old Extra Spark (Sussex-Machiavelli / Badal Stud) produced that little bit of extra when it mattered most to pull it off in the Indi Plate. Grand Success went on a start to finish bid and successfully shrugged off the challenge of As Good As Gold on the straight. Extra Spark started to move up from the outside and fighting out with Grand Success travelled the better to spare three parts of a length at the finish. The favourite Momotaro finished third and As Good As Gold fourth. Silent Trust and Classic King were withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Silsila (Sedgefield-Divine Honey / Jai Govind Stud) whose last win was two years ago at Mumbai was sent off as the favourite in the higher division of the Ellora Plate, the concluding race of the day. The 6 year old set off on a start to finish bid and won unchallenged. Grand Celebration finished second ahead of Refreshed. Flirting King was fourth.

S.Santosh Rao trained Happiness (International-Claribel / Mebajeona Stud) who was on its last start of the career came out victorious in the lower division of the Ellora Plate. Born For Beauty was in the lead with 400 metres left but had to surrender the lead with four runners closing in from behind. Oro Plata and Happiness were in the centre with Friends Forever challenging from the outside and Bold Nature taking the shortest way. Inside the last 150 metres the four of them were almost in a line and it looked to be anybody’s race. Jockey Nitin Singh rode hard to get the ‘old lady’ Happiness to pull it off by half a length from Oro Plata. Bold Nature was third another neck away and Friends Forever finishing fourth. Vrajanandan was withdrawn on veterinary grounds near the gates.

Delta Delight (Don Micheletto-Fascinating Lady / Nakul Stud) was made to work hard to win the higher division of the Vesuvius Plate. Delta Delight went on a start to finish bid and came in first on the straight. Concentration tried to sneak in along the rails but finding the gap closing up, was pulled from the outside. Green Emerald came with a late burst to finish second by a neck. Concentration was third another half a length away. The rider of Concentration took an objection against the winner for interference and that was overruled by the stewards.

It was a close call in the lower division. G.Srinivas Babu trained Jump In The Red (Opportunist-Malaga Cove / Country Stud) just managed to neck out Subadra. Travelling in mid field till turning for home Jump In The Red improved gradually from the outside to put up a challenge. Born For Stakes had in the meanwhile surged ahead to be in front. Jockey Nitin Singh who is leading in the tally started to ride out Jump In The Red and the 6 year old forged ahead. Subadra was getting closer from the inside at a fast pace but Jump In The Red held on gamely by a neck at the finish. Time Matters did well to ende up third in front of Born For Stakes and Eudora who dead-heated for the fourth place.

Feroz M Khan trained Silken Water (Admiralofthefleet-Track Charm / Kunigal Stud) who was still a maiden going into the race was backed to the exclusion of the other runners in the Sriharikota Plate. The filly did not disappoint her supporters and won the race comfortably. Strive And Serve took up the running in the early part of the race and went on a start to finish bid. Silken Water improved gradually through the field and grabbed the lead as they passed the 300 metres board and won easily. Invincible Wish chased the winner inside the last furlong to finish second. Strive And Serve finished in the money while Yamas took the fourth spot.

The top weighted New World (Razeen-Forest Paradise / Usha Stud) justified the favouritism in the Aperitivo Plate. J.Saravanan’s trainee who had run only thrice on this track after shifting base from Mumbai was sent off as the favourite for the seven furlongs race. New World took a good jump and found itself in front as the gates opened but decided to settle in third when Mr.Carpe and Capitano rushed to the front. As they turned for home New World was quick to regain that lead and kicked on gamely throughout the straight. Castle King was in hot chase throughout the last furlong and finished second by a neck. Demanding Format was third and Tulip fourth. Vijays Best was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.
