COMMANDING BOY TAKES THE CIRCAR CUP

K.R.K.Raju trained Commanding Boy (Royal Gladiator-Thikn Of Us) which had won its last start a fortnight ago repeated that performance to score an encore in the Circar Cup that featured the penultimate day’s races of the season at Hyderabad. The gelding took a good jump from an outward draw and quickly moved towards the fence to track the leader Winjoy. On entering the home straight Commanding Boy surged ahead with ease and kicked on till the winning post. Numinous rallied on to take the second spot ahead of Sketch Of Beauty and Blossom.

Trainer Anupam Sharma who is leading by a comfortable margin in the season’s tally added two more points on the day. The jockey’s championship is heading for an interesting finish with almost four of them closely placed. Trainer Donald Netto walked away with a treble. His ward Kalinda (Gaswar-Kilspindie) won the higher division of the J.S.Dhariwal Memorial Cup. The filly was off to a good start as the gates opened and settled to run second when Bharat King showed urgency in going to the front. Approaching the last 300 metres Kalinda surged ahead easily and won impressively. Strengthandbeauty and Gunner finished second and third respectively. Bharat King filled the judges frame.

The lower division was won by Anupam Sharma’s Blue Eyed Babe (Kheleyf-Java Lady). Racing in about fifth till entering the straight, Blue Eyed Babe started to improve with jockey K.Mukesh Kumar riding out and took charge with 300 metres left. The filly stretched out well and held on from the late effort of Wonder Eye. Valerian Steel finished third and Amethyst fourth.

Western Wind (West Virginia-Miraflores) gave the second winner for Anupam and Mukesh Kumar combination in the lower division of the Greener Plate.  The 4 year old who had won on debut just a week ago scored an impressive victory over the sprint. Jamie went on a start to finish bid and held forte till mid-way up the straight. Western Wind started to gallop fast from the rear and swept past the front runners and extended the margin of victory. Pamella, Jamie and Picture Perfect filled the judges frame in that order.

Jockey Imran Chisty rode out K.Satheesh trained Lavender (Hurricane Centre-R Valid Girl) to lift the higher division in a close finish. Blaze Of Glory took over from Yes Baby inside the last 250 metres and Lavender started to challenge from the outside. Lavender began to veer out of the straight course and Imran Chisty got her to get back into the race and with a strong effort collared Blaze Of Glory on the last stride. Golden Xanthus and Yes Baby finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer Satheesh had earlier in the Charon Plate led in youngster Surprise Party (Noverre-Bridgeofsighs). The filly rushed to take up the running as the gates opened and made every post a winning one. Exclusive Wind started to cover ground towards the closing stages but Surprise Party was safely home by 2 ¼ lengths. Miracle King ended up third and Big Flash fourth.

Laxman Singh trained Vijays Victory (Placerville-Dementieva), the oldest at 7 years among the six runners in the opening event, the Southern Glory Plate went on a start to finish effort over the grueling 2400 metres distance and pulled it off successfully. Limitation came charging towards the closing stages but jockey Deep Shanker continued to ride out and Vijays Victory held on gamely by half a length. Carolina Moon who was in chase in second all the way ended up third.

The Republic Star Plate,an 1100 metres scurry for maiden 3 years old horses were divided into two races. D.Netto sent out winners in both the divisions.  Rahul’s Pet (Green Coast-Singing Speed) won the higher division in an impressive fashion. Sent off as the on-money favourite, Rahul’s Pet settled nicely in third after jumping out from the innermost draw. On the home stretch Rahul’s Pet persisted along the fence and making way, forged ahead and drew clear. Ruby’s Gift finished second ahead of Montana Sky.

Preciosa (Green Coast-Coco Channel) trounced the opposition in the lower division. Preciosa took the lead at start and stayed in front with Royal Dynamite racing on its haunches. As they turned for home Royal Dynamite drifted out to take the turn wide and Preciosa kept going straight and extended the lead to over six lengths. Nazailla managed to beat Royal Dynamite for the second place.
