Trainer Neil Darashah leading Thomas More (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Governor's Trophy

After Fabulous Touch from trainer S Ganapathy’s yard opted out, the Governor’s Trophy, the plum event  run over a mile for juveniles became easy picking for the Neil Darashah-trained Thomas More, the favourite  proving too good for his two rivals.  Now that the bred in the purple colt has shed his maiden status in his third career start, the good looking youngster is certain to graduate to higher league in the summer season.

The Saptharishi Cup saw the in-form Be Inspired chalk up an impressive victory in the hands of Scottish professional David Allan. The Irfan ward who was offered at (6/1) in the betting ring produced a sparkling gallop at the distance post to snuff out the challenge of Supreme Dominator and Jersey Shore. The favourite Kingston Town raced in patches and eventually finished a poor fourth.

The opening event, the Mudabidri Plate saw the second in demand at the betting ring, Tea Wid Me trounce his 11 rivals including the much fancied Miss Ceylon. Imran Khan was cool and composed all through the sprint dash, not worried that Miss Ceylon had streaked ahead and was merrily enjoying herself in front. He nursed the Inayathullah nice and easy before he set alight Tea Wid Me and at end he had the time to sip on his tea before the rest past the finishing post. Tea Wid Me is in good health and is set to provide an encore if his connections judiciously place her in the higher class before the curtains are drawn this season.

Twice second from his last two starts, Charming Grey rightly garnered the maximum support in the lower division of the Tumkur Plate and the Irfan ward provided Suraj an arm-chair ride to success, romping home to enter the winners’ circle which was long overdue. Androstos finished second while Atrorius from Padmanabhan’s yard who had a fair share of his supporters came home a none too impressive fourth.

Trainer Kishen Thomas who struck through All Thats Nice in the concluding event on Friday added one more to his kitty in partnership with leading pro Trevor Patel, the seven to one shot Kimora  coming home in the lower division of the Alchemy Plate run over a sprint. The two top fancies I’ll Have One More from Warren Singh’s yard and the Amit Caddy-trained Rock N Rolla failed to match strides with the winner. The former finished second ahead of Rock N Rolla while Active Grey took the fourth spot.

The well backed and strongly fancied Conquistador from Arjun Manglorkar’s yard delighted his supporters producing a winning gallop when the race came on a boil to retire home a convincing winner. Rumour Has it edged out Better Than Bet by a `nose’ for the second place while the second favourite Cannes after a good getaway failed to quicken at the all-important end and ended a poor fourth.

Following the withdrawal of the Dominic schooled Only Princess in the Star Of Windsor Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs, the Lokanath-trained Able Master was installed the favourite but the public choice piloted by Trevor Patel found the friendless Little Man from Gregory Sandhu’s yard too hot to handle, the rank outsider hitting the front in the hands of Janardhan Paswan and never letting the initiative slip.
