It was Jockey C Rajendra’s day altogether at Mahalaxmi as the Champion rider scored a fine treble with Blue Blaze, Star O ‘War and Athena on Thursday. While Blue Blaze and Athena were hot favourites from trainer Shroff’s stables, Star O ‘War quoted at nourishing odds, came from Hosidar Daji’s yard. Blue Blaze was a relatively easy ride for Rajendra in the third race. Hitting the front soon on start, Rajendra maintained a safe distance from his rivals and made every post a winning one to win with a fair measure of comfort. Blue Blaze out paced her rivals and was never in danger of being caught. She set her own leisurely pace and not a single opponent could match strides with the filly. Pomme De Terre (Aadesh) caught the eye for her brilliant finishing effort. The Lagad filly was last at start and was a couple of lengths adrift of the bunch till the home turn. In the straight, as Blue Blaze put the issue beyond her opponents, Pomme De Terre worked her way all through and covered a lot of ground in the final furlong to run into place money narrowly failing to get past Insite Soul (Dashrath) – a notable performance indeed. Athena was widely fancied once again showed her quick turn of foot in the homestretch and duly crafted her third win in four starts this season. Generalissimo did try to press the favourite in the final furlong but with strong assistance from Rajendra, Athena kicked on and safely kept Generalissimo at bay. Mickey Mantle was slowly off and took no serious part in the race. Master Craft (Riyaz) took over from early leader Absolute, Axiology was following close behind with Dance Maestro, Athena was in the mid bunch and Generalissimo was well off the early pace. Master Craft led them homeward, Axiology and Dance Maestro raised hopes but could not sustain. Athena burst on to the business end midway up the straight and was accelerating well and past the distance post Generalissimo tried to ask questions off Athena but Rajendra’s strong handling ensured that Generalissimo could only get to just over a length shy of the favourite, who eventually prevailed to bag the Indictment Trophy. Master Craft is the one to watch out for in his next outing. Rajendra had a grand 'Trophy-Double' when he powered Star O ‘War to a closely fought victory in the Kailashpat Singhania Trophy. The small field of six jumped to an even start. The normally easy settling Wild Temper struggled to deploy his customary front running style and had to be vigorously goaded to hit the front. The Lagad charge never settled well and faded away too early from the race. King’s Desire, Dynamic Cat (Grant) Star O’ War and Call To Arms (Kishore) were in pursuit and Three Of Arts was languishing in the rear. King’s Desire (Prashant) easily got past Wild Temper but had no answer to Dynamic Cat’s challenge. Soon Call To Arms started to come up on the outside and even before the duo began to battle Star O’ War who was unsure whether to move in or out got a slight opening and Rajendra seized the opportunity and pushed through to dart ahead to land the spoils in a close finish. Call To Arms, I felt, was a tad unlucky as Dynamic Cat shifted out slightly hampering Kishore at a crucial juncture in the final run in, and it may well be worth giving Call To Arms another chance considering he was gaining much ground in the final burst. Premier Diva compiled long due victory in the first race with something to spare. The Imtiaz ward quickened early in the straight and opened up a widening gap, which smothered the others in the fray effectively and none could even make a fight of it. King’s Troop only managed to bridge the gap but still ended a good 2 lengths behind. Mubarras improved on his last pathetic performance and finished third. The favourite Opera Royale could not raise any hope at any stage and finished a far away fourth. At no stage did he justify the kind of support he garnered and it is best not to wager on him this season. Young talented Trainer Faisal Abbas is surely making his presence felt and his double on Thursday was a fine announcement of the fact. Bu Attifel (Nilesh) took charge early and led the field home. The Right Man (PS Chouhan) who chased the leader all through ended doing so although he managed to get closer in the finishing stages of the race. Shaktiman (Vikram) stayed put in third, however, Mustang Sally (Ashish) had a decent preparation and ran on to figure in the frame, an effort enough to suggest that he is getting his bearings right. Nana Raghunath’s Elementto Style (Aadesh) was the most impressive winner of the day. Settling well in the front bunch Elementto Style shot into the lead readily soon on turning for home and put the issue beyond favorite Babeinthewoods (Rajendra) and the rest Such was the acceleration of Elementto Style that the others were struggling to keep pace but the second in demand just kept drawing away to pull off an emphatic victory. Babeinthewoods could only finish second best and found the winner too good. Mypethoney who led till Elementto Style took charge faded away as Courage Under Fire ran on to claim place money and the one to cover a lot of ground and come into the picture late was Flaming Arrow (Merchant). The Katrak ward was way behind in the second bunch and did well to finish a close fourth. Faisal Abbas’ double came through with Bonny Light in the last race. The grey followed her good last start second and converted this run to an authoritative victory despite carrying a heavy 61.5 kgs. Sitting well up with the front-runners, Bonny Light benefited from the courageous assistance from Fargeat who brilliantly guided the Bonny Light through the narrowest of gaps and surge into the lead past the distance post. St Moritz (Shailesh) came with a good challenge but Bonny Light was well up to it and stubbornly held on by t a length. The one to impress me was Game Of Power (Mansoor) who was the last one to turn for home. The grey devoured ground smoothly to finish a close third and needs watching.
